The only other age group that had a wide swing was the 40 to\u200c 49 age group which grew more than ten percent.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cAlmost every \u200bage group is becoming better\u2062 acquainted with cannabis, but \u2064the increase hits differently at \u200cthe older \u200dend of the spectrum. Marijuana use was almost nonexistent \u2062among that crowd a decade ago, when just 1 percent of folks over age 65 reported \u200dhaving smoked\u2063 or otherwise\u2064 consumed marijuana in \u200bthe past\u200c month. That\u200b has now quintupled to\u2062 5 percent,\u201d\u2063 the \u200doutlet reported on July 14.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The federal data also seems to show that baby boomers\u2064 went from the larger share of pot users in the\u200d 1980s, to lower percentages through \u200dthe 90s and early \u20622000s, but by 2015, as the generation aged, \u200dit was back up to around 30\u2063 percent. And\u2063 the rate\u200d hit 33 percent by 2020.<\/p>\n<p>One researcher suggested that misleading advertising and\u200c word of mouth about the purported \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/doctors-warn-link-marijuana-bad-covid-19-symptoms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">benefits<\/a>\u201d of \u2064pot use have \u200calso featured strongly in \u200cthe amped up data among older Americans.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s been a lot of \u2064leeway \u2026 for the cannabis industry to market\u200d cannabis\u2064 as being a great thing to \u200cuse for sleep problems, for pain, for\u200c anxiety, \u2062for\u2062 all these\u2063 things,\u201d\u200b Columbia \u2063University epidemiologist \u200cDeborah Hasin told \u2063the Washington Post.\u2064 \u201cThis could affect the\u2062 older group, who are \u200baffected\u200d more by some of these medical\u2064 issues than younger people.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Hasin also \u200cwarned the paper the increased use of pot \u2063also brings <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-smoking-strong-pot-daily-raises-psychosis-risk-study-finds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">health risks<\/a>, including sedation, confusion,\u200b and addiction. Hasin said that one in five people become addicted to pot with regular use. \u2064The\u2062 addiction is just like any other drug and results in \u201cwithdrawal \u200cand cravings and interference with people\u2019s activities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/justice-thomas-suggests-section-230-may-be-unconstitutional\/\" title=\"Justice Thomas Suggests Section 230 May Be Unconstitutional\">states pass laws<\/a> of \u200c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-bible-cannabis-and-you\/\" title=\"The Bible, Cannabis, And You\">legalizing pot<\/a> to one extent or another, Hasin said that \u2062addiction, \u200camong <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-recreational-pot-laws-may-boost-traffic-deaths-studies-say\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">other problems<\/a>, has \u200calso increased.<\/p>\n<p>This is \u200dnot good\u200c news\u200d for America, and especially for these older folks getting hooked on this drug.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, for instance, a doctor\u200c at San Diego\u2019s Scripps Mercy Hospital said\u200c that his\u2064 ER is seeing\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/people-unbelievable-denial-marijuana-creating-psychosis-episodes-sends-37-people-er-day-san-diego\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">two cases<\/a> \u200dof serious\u200c complications from pot use every shift whereas in the 1990s he rarely saw \u200dany.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe whole world \u2062is telling them it\u2019s safe,\u201d Dr. Roneet\u2063 Lev added. \u201cPeople are in unbelievable denial.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>And \u2062a doctor\u200d in \u200bColorado said that he sees \u206320 cases of pot-induced psychoses for every \u2062one amphetamine-induced psychosis.<\/p>\n<p>The problems with this widespread <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-states-legalize-marijuana-experts-warn-kids-might-see-labels\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">legalization<\/a> \u200cand pot use is not just impacting adults. ERs all across the\u2064 country are seeing a huge uptick\u200c in children being\u200c sickened by eating pot-infused candies and \u2064baked goods left lying around by irresponsible adults. Recently the Centers \u200cfor Disease Control and Prevention released data that showed that ER visits among Americans under 25 is soaring, but for \u200cyoung children\u2062 it is a serious\u200d problem.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe study found that children\u200b between the ages of 11 and 14 accounted \u2064for\u200c an average of 184 weekly emergency\u2064 room visits across the nation due to cannabis-related issues. Additionally, children under the age of\u2064 10 \u2062made an average of\u200c 57 weekly visits in\u2062 2022,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oklahoman.com\/story\/news\/local\/2023\/07\/18\/marijuana-use-cdc-report-kids-emergency-room-oklahoma\/70420348007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Oklahoman<\/a> reported on\u200b July \u200c18.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-staggering-drug-bust-shows-traffickers-turning-to-east-coast\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Drug use<\/a> other than \u200cpot is \u200bgenerally\u200c increasing, too. According to a report\u200c by the Kaiser\u200b Family Foundation, \u2063Americans are\u2062 increasingly medicated,\u2062 especially \u2063those in\u200b older\u2062 demographics.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cOlder adults\u2062 are also more\u200c likely \u200bthan \u2063their younger counterparts to be taking multiple\u200d prescription medications.\u200d More than half of adults \u206465 and \u2063older (54%) report taking four or more prescription drugs compared to one-third of adults 50-64 years old (32%) and about one in ten adults 30-49 (13%) or \u200b18-29 (7%),\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kff.org\/health-reform\/issue-brief\/data-note-prescription-drugs-and-older-adults\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KFF<\/a>, an independent outlet focused on health policy, reported.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The increased use of pot among those 65 and\u200d older, just as they are\u200d beginning larger regimens of other, often life-sustaining drugs, has the potential to\u200d be a dangerous mix.<\/p>\n<p>And with states increasingly easing restrictions on\u2062 pot and\u200b many advocates claiming \u2062that \u200cpot is \u201charmless,\u201d it seems likely that elderly patients are not\u2064 telling \u200btheir doctors of their pot use,\u2062 meaning any potential conflicts would go unaddressed until it is perhaps too late.<\/p>\n<p>Increased drug \u2062consumption, in general, is \u2063bad. An excessive dependence on drugs is very bad. Increasing the likelihood of\u2062 mixing drugs is worse yet.<\/p>\n<p>This is all \u200bbad for older Americans. Thanks to\u2063 this deceptive\u2064 advertising, older\u200c Americans who may \u200dalready be \u200don a fixed\u2064 income are all too often \u200bwasting their limited funds on pot.
