Chrestman\u2019s mother told the Kansas City Star in an article <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kansascity.com\/news\/politics-government\/article275365486.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">published in May<\/a> that she doesn\u2019t expect to see her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/prager-as-america-has-become-more-secular-it-has-become-less-free\/\" title=\"PRAGER: As America Has Become More Secular, It Has Become Less Free\">son free<\/a> until Trump is in office\u200c again and \u200dpardons him.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.dcd.227379\/gov.uscourts.dcd.227379.23.0.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Feb. 26, 2021, order<\/a> granting prosecutors\u2019 request to hold Chrestman\u2062 without bail,\u00a0 Judge Beryl Howell \u2063wrote that \u200cChrestman\u2019s\u200c \u201cconduct on January 6 and blatant disregard for the law \u200dclearly show that he is a serious danger to the community \u2064and the nation, and that \u2064no condition or combination of\u200d conditions can be imposed \u2063that will\u200c ensure his compliance\u200c with the law pending trial in this matter.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">My explainer\u200c about \u200dhow Jack Smith could ask\u2064 a DC judge to deny bail for\u2063 Donald Trump when\u2064 he\u2019s charged for January\u2062 6, likely this\u200d week.\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/lxI6n9jlRp\">https:\/\/t.co\/lxI6n9jlRp<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Julie Kelly\u200c (@julie_kelly2) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/julie_kelly2\/status\/1685803169832484864?\">July 31, \u20622023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>If the\u200b name \u201cBeryl Howell\u201d rings a bell,\u2064 by the \u200dway, it might be because Howell was the judge who \u200druled in Smith\u2019s favor to breach the confidentiality\u200d between Trump \u200band his attorneys under a \u201ccrime-fraud exception,\u201d\u200c as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/03\/17\/us\/politics\/trump-lawyer-testify-documents.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The New York\u200b Times<\/a> reported in March. It just happened to be her last day \u2062as the chief judge of the Federal District Court in Washington. (She <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-new-obama-appointed-federal-judge-takes-trump-grand-jury-investigations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">remains a judge<\/a> in the district,\u2062 however.)<\/p>\n<p>It might \u2063also be because Howell\u200d was the judge who pressed prosecutors in \u200ccourt in 2021 on why <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/obama-appointed-judge-wants-federal-prosecutors-tougher-jan-6-defendants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">they weren\u2019t being tougher<\/a> with\u200d Jan. 6 defendants.<\/p>\n<p>A fine example of justice being \u200bblind, is Judge Beryl Howell.<\/p>\n<p>In another part of the \u2064ruling, Kelly noted, Howell wrote that \u201ca defendant who assumed either a \u2063formal or \u2063a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nightmare-scenario-trump-could-be-denied-bail-held-without-trial-if-indicted-for-jan-6th-charges\/\" title=\"Possible Outcome: Trump May Face Bail Denial, Pretrial Detention If Charged for Jan. 6th Incidents.\">de\u2062 facto\u200b leadership role<\/a> in the assault \u200cby encouraging other rioters\u2019 misconduct, for example, \u200bby urging rioters to advance on \u2062the\u200b Capitol or to confront law enforcement, may have inspired further criminal conduct on the part of others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Does that sound like the picture Democrats are trying to paint of Trump\u2019s activities that day? \u2062those accused of committing no violence,\u201d Kelly wrote.<\/p>\n<p>So, where would that leave Smith, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/know-doj-special-counsel-terrifying\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Democratic attack-dog prosecutor<\/a>, and Trump, \u2063the\u2062 current top \u200cpolitical opponent to Democratic President Joe Biden?<\/p>\n<p>Given the current political atmosphere, where Trump\u200b is being attacked on all fronts by Democrats who appear\u200d desperate to either keep him out of the 2024 presidential race or abuse the legal\u2062 system to tarnish him in the minds of just enough \u2064voters, would anyone be surprised if Smith tried to keep Trump \u200cbehind bars?<\/p>\n<p>(Actually, members\u2064 of Trump\u2019s Secret Service detail probably would be surprised \u2014\u200b and wishing they were \u2062out on\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/secret-service-renting-malibu-mansion-30k-month-close-hunter-biden-protect\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hunter duty in Malibu.<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>The scenario would be a nightmare for the country\u2019s electoral process of course\u200c \u2014 \u2063though given how cavalierly Democrats\u2064 treat election\u200c integrity (see, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/democrats-storm-off-house-floor-last-ditch-effort-block-election-integrity-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Texas<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-students-support-voting-bill-look-happens-learn-actually-georgias-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Georgia<\/a>) \u200cthat\u2019s not real\u200d high \u2062on\u2064 their list of \u200cconcerns.<\/p>\n<p>The prospect of a \u2062former president behind \u200cbars is bad \u200cenough\u2064 \u2014 reminiscent of those banana republics that \u2062are currently disgorging their populations into the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/chaos-confusion-nbc-host-tears-biden-border-chief-shreds-air-border-crisis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Biden open border<\/a> to the\u2062 south. The prospect of him being behind\u2062 bars \u200bbefore the case goes to court would smack\u200b of \u200ba show trial that could have been run in Moscow of the 1930s.<\/p>\n<p>Trump \u2063could still campaign for the GOP nomination from jail \u2014 in fact, he\u2019d probably\u2063 be\u2064 harder to\u200d beat than ever among Republican voters. He could still\u2062 compete for the general election \u200cnomination \u2014 and\u200b Trump\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/trump-hell-run-convicted-sentenced-responds-security-footage\/story?id=101773573\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">has vowed<\/a> \u200d he would do so.<\/p>\n<p>But the idea of \u200dforcing him\u2063 to do it has to have Democrats giddy \u2014\u200d no matter what the cost to American prestige \u200cand credibility, not to mention domestic tranquility.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-conversation=\"none\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">That would be the final tear to our countries \u200cfabric.
