The agreement unexpectedly \u200bfell apart in court last week.<\/p>\n<p>The chairmen of the House Judiciary, Oversight, and Ways and Means Committees, Jim Jordan (R-OH),\u2064 James Comer (R-KY),\u2062 and Jason\u200b Smith (R-MO), respectively, \u200bhave expressed their concerns and requested clarity on the &#8220;ongoing&#8221; nature of the Hunter Biden investigation.<\/p>\n<h3>Seeking \u200dAnswers from the Department of Justice<\/h3>\n<p>In their letter to Garland, the chairmen stated, &#8220;Given <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hunter-biden-plea-house-gop-investigates-troubling-provisions-of-doj-deal\/\" title=\"House GOP investigates 'troubling' aspects of Hunter Biden's plea in DOJ deal.\">recent unusual events relating<\/a> to the Department\u2019s plea \u2062and pretrial diversion agreements with Mr.\u200c Biden, we write to better \u200bunderstand the Department\u2019s decision to sign off on such apparently atypical agreements.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The\u200d deal involved Hunter Biden pleading guilty to two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hunter-biden-investigation-irs-whistleblower-x-to-reveal-identity-at-oversight-hearing\/\" title=\"IRS Whistleblower X will disclose their identity during the Oversight hearing on the Hunter Biden investigation.\">misdemeanor tax\u200d charges<\/a> and entering into a pretrial diversion agreement to avoid a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/victims-blame-soros-backed-prosecutors-for-crime-wave-in-u-s-cities\/\" title=\"Victims Blame Soros-Backed Prosecutors for Crime Wave in U.S. Cities\">felony gun charge<\/a>. However, during Hunter Biden&#8217;s court hearing, U.S.\u200b District Judge Maryellen \u2064Noreika raised concerns \u2062about the deal&#8217;s implications for future charges related to the \u2063Foreign Agents Registration Act.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, the chairmen focused on paragraph 14 of\u2064 the diversion agreement, which Noreika deemed potentially unconstitutional, as it would make her the &#8220;gatekeeper&#8221; to criminal charges.\u2063 They also highlighted paragraph 15 and Noreika&#8217;s concerns about its broad immunity provision, which could improperly shield Hunter Biden from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-says-hunter-investigation-handled-independently-after-judge-rejects-dojs-favorable-plea-deal\/\" title=\"White House claims Hunter investigation 'handled independently' despite DOJ's plea deal rejection.\">future criminal charges<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Request for Documents and Briefing<\/h3>\n<p>The chairmen have requested \u200bthat\u2064 Garland provide\u2064 them with various documents and\u200c communications related to the \u200bplea deal by August 14.\u2064 They specifically asked for examples of similar provisions in deals over the past 10 years.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the Republicans\u2062 are seeking a briefing to gain insight into the status of the investigation. \u200bThe Department\u2063 of Justice has \u200cpreviously withheld information from the\u200d committees, citing the \u200dongoing nature of the Hunter Biden investigation. However, \u2062the chairmen expressed concerns \u2062that this reasoning is being used as a &#8220;shield&#8221; to avoid congressional\u2064 oversight.<\/p>\n<p>They also questioned how Hunter\u2062 Biden&#8217;s attorneys and the \u200dprosecutors failed to reach an agreement on the immunity provision, \u200bleading to the deal\u2063 unraveling in court.
