The\u2064 claim, which \u200dfirst emerged in 2019, was that Biden pressured Ukraine \u2064to fire its top prosecutor in order\u200c to \u200cstop an investigation into Burisma, an oil-and-gas company where Hunter Biden was on the board. GOP lawmakers and\u2064 staff present at\u200c Monday\u2019s interview\u2064 were also expected to question Archer about\u2064 several business meetings and conversations Hunter Biden had during which he is said\u200d to have\u200b invoked his father\u2019s name.<\/p>\n<p>On top of his relationship with Hunter Biden, who \u200dis currently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/key-witness-in-biden-family-business-scandal-appears-before-congress\/\" title=\"Biden family business scandal witness testifies in Congress.\">facing federal tax charges<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/comer-floored-doj-sends-troubling-letter-days-devon-archer-set-testify-biden-business-dealings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Archer<\/a> \u2064 has his own legal troubles\u200b stemming from a\u200c 2018 felony conviction for his role in \u2063a conspiracy to defraud a \u200dNative\u200d American tribe. That conviction was overturned later that year, but then the court of appeals in \u200dNew York reinstated it in 2020. His\u200d sentencing in the case has been repeatedly delayed by appeals.<\/p>\n<p>Archer\u2019s appearance before lawmakers had been scheduled \u2063and canceled several times since June.\u200b Republicans suggested it\u200c was about to be\u200b delayed again after the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/hunter-biden-still-get-saved-doj-even-without-immunity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Justice Department<\/a> over the weekend \u200basked a \u200djudge to schedule a date for Archer to surrender to prison and begin\u2064 serving out his \u2062one-year sentence in the unrelated\u200c fraud case.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans \u2014\u200d led by Comer \u2014 criticized that delay, calling it an effort by the Justice\u2063 Department to intimidate a witness.
