That figure is double the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-wages-war-on-americas-favorite-vehicles-trucks\/\" title=\"Biden targets beloved trucks in America's war.\">proposed mileage\u2062 improvement requirements<\/a> for cars, prompting left-wing environmental group Center for\u200b Biological Diversity to praise Biden \u2063for working to\u200d get trucks off the road. &#8220;It does help tackle the &#8216;truckification&#8217; of the fleet with stronger standards for SUVs and \u2064pickups than cars,&#8221; said Dan\u2063 Becker, the center&#8217;s climate transport director.<\/p>\n<p>Biden plans to use \u200bthe proposal \u200cto ensure that two-thirds of new \u2062vehicles sold \u2062in the United\u200c States are electric by 2032. And while electric vehicles largely <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/energy\/americans-arent-sold-on-electric-cars-biden-wants-to-force-automakers-to-sell-them-anyway\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">haven&#8217;t caught on<\/a> with U.S. consumers, gas-powered\u200d trucks are\u200b the most popular vehicles in\u200d the country. Ford&#8217;s\u2063 F-Series has been the \u200dtop-selling vehicle\u2064 in America for more than four decades, and though the lineup\u200b now includes an electric option, just\u200d 15,617 of\u2063 the roughly 654,000 F-Series trucks\u2062 Ford sold in 2022 were\u2062 electric. Ford&#8217;s \u200dtruck sales have\u2062 climbed \u2064in \u200d2023\u2014electric \u2063vehicles represent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/07\/06\/fords-second-quarter-us-sales-jump.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">less\u2064 than \u20643 \u2062percent<\/a> of those sales.<\/p>\n<p>Gas-powered trucks similarly drive sales for other\u2063 leading automakers. The Chevy Silverado and Ram Pickup ranked second and third in the \u2062nation in sales \u200cin \u20632022, respectively, \u200dwhile the \u2064GMC Sierra came in sixth.<\/p>\n<p>The popularity of gas-powered trucks could explain why leading automakers have\u2063 blasted the Biden administration&#8217;s electric vehicle mandates. Toyota \u2064and Stellantis\u2014the\u200b latter of which\u200d makes Ram \u2063trucks\u2014say Biden&#8217;s goal to make two-thirds of new vehicle sales electric in just nine years \u200dis &#8220;overly optimistic&#8221;\u2063 and &#8220;underestimates\u200b key challenges.&#8221; The Alliance for Automotive Innovation, a \u2062trade group that represents the world&#8217;s top automakers,\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/biden-administration\/from-powerful-unions-to-everyday-voters-bidens-gas-powered-car-purge-prompts-backlash\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">agrees<\/a>\u2014its leaders say \u200dthe regulations are &#8220;neither reasonable \u2064nor achievable&#8221; and would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/from-powerful-unions-to-everyday-voters-bidens-gas-powered-car-purge-prompts-backlash\/\" title=\"Biden's Car Purge Sparks Backlash from Unions and Voters.\">prompt huge price hikes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When the companies that will build the millions of \u200bEVs required by these regulations say\u2062 the\u200d pace and balance of [the administration&#8217;s] rules are out\u200b of whack,&#8221; alliance president and CEO John Bozzella\u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosinnovate.org\/posts\/blog\/epas-rules-are-out-of-whack-five-ways-to-fix-them\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a> last month, &#8220;regulators and policymakers should \u200cbelieve them.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The\u200c White \u2064House did not return a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Electric vehicle\u200c batteries require\u2063 massive \u200damounts of minerals, which \u2062are overwhelmingly \u200dmined and refined \u200boutside of the United States. As a result, producing an electric \u2063vehicle emits more carbon than producing a gas-powered one, a problem that Manhattan Institute senior\u2064 fellow Mark \u200cMills <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/energy\/electric-cars-might-not-even-lower-carbon-emissions-report-finds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">says<\/a> \u200d could mean that the vehicles don&#8217;t help the environment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If implemented, [internal combustion engine] bans will lead to \u2026 draconian constraints on freedoms and unprecedented impediments to affordable and \u200dconvenient driving,&#8221;\u2063 Mills \u2063wrote in a July report. &#8220;And it will have little to no impact on global carbon emissions.
