Nuclear power now makes \u200cup 25% of Georgia\u2019s power generation.<\/p>\n<p>A fourth reactor is also approaching completion, and once operational, it will reportedly work \u200dalongside two existing reactors that have been \u200bin service\u2062 for decades.\u2064 The Nuclear Regulatory Commission announced \u2064on Friday that radioactive fuel could be placed into Unit 4, with the process anticipated to be completed by\u2064 the end of September. <\/p>\n<p>Unit 4 is \u2062expected to begin commercial operations in March.<\/p>\n<p>Those who \u2064favor \u2062the creation\u2062 of the reactors argue that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/first-u-s-nuclear-reactor-in-decades-enters-commercial-operation-in-georgia\/\" title=\"New U.S. nuclear reactor in Georgia starts commercial operation after decades.\">large-scale nuclear plant<\/a> is crucial \u2064to \u200bmeet growing energy needs without increasing concerns over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/four-dangerous-new-democrat-bills-that-you-probably-havent-heard-of\/\" title=\"Four Dangerous New Democrat Bills That You Probably Haven\u2019t Heard Of\">climate-warming emissions<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Opponents of the reactor\u2019s construction point \u200bto \u2063previous mass reactor failures and the\u200b plant\u2019s \u200dsignificant number\u200d of setbacks as reasons why new facilities like Vogtle may not be the\u2064 answer to sustaining a\u2064 carbon-free electricity grid\u200d in the United States.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>Georgia Power\u2063 CEO Kim Greene said in a statement \u200don Monday that\u200d Unit 3\u2019s \u2063entry into commercial\u200d operations \u201cmarks\u2064 the first day of the \u200dnext\u200d 60 to 80 years that Vogtle Unit 3 will serve our customers with clean, reliable\u200b energy\u201d and that it\u2019s \u201cimportant that we make these kinds of long-term investments and see them through.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThis hadn\u2019t been done in\u2063 this \u200dcountry from start to finish in some 30-plus years,\u201d said Chris Womack, CEO of Atlanta-based Southern \u2063Co., on \u200dMonday \u2063in an interview. \u2064\u201cSo to do this, to get this done, to get this done right, is a\u2063 wonderful accomplishment for\u200d our company, for the state and for the customers here in Georgia.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The price estimation \u200cfor the reactors was estimated to be $14 billion, but they have now exceeded that value, with a\u2063 cost expected to be around $31 billion.<\/p>\n<p>People who pay for electricity in\u200b Georgia are\u200d also expected to contribute to a portion of \u2063the cost that \u200dwent into the facility\u2019s\u2062 creation, however, questions regarding who\u2063 will foot\u2064 the bill for \u2063the overcharge is still\u200b up \u200din the \u2064air.<\/p>\n<p>Experts have emphasized\u200c that \u200bthe delays and \u200dsteep construction costs have\u2064 severely diminished the benefits\u2063 that come\u200d from the low cost \u2062of uranium. <\/p>\n<p>Georgia commissioners will reportedly be responsible for determining \u200cwho\u2064 pays for Vogtle\u2019s remaining expenditures and where the corporation and its stockholders\u2062 would pick up the tab for excessive costs.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote data-service=\"twitter\" data-category=\"marketing\" data-placeholder-image=\"https:\/\/c3.oann.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/complianz-gdpr\/assets\/images\/placeholders\/twitter-minimal.jpg\" class=\"cmplz-placeholder-element twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Today is\u2062 a historical day!\u200b We\u2019ve declared that\u200b Plant\u2062 Vogtle Unit 3\u200c has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mystery-gas-leaks-hit-major-russian-undersea-gas-pipelines-to-europe\/\" title=\"Mystery gas leaks hit major Russian undersea gas pipelines to Europe\">entered commercial operation<\/a>\u200d and is now serving customers and the \u2063State\u200d of Georgia.
