Despite this, the\u2064 USDA\u200b continues to collaborate with BGI on the Earth BioGenome \u2064Project, an ambitious initiative to map the genomes of over 1.5 million species.<\/p>\n<p>BGI has received $1 million in U.S. tax dollars\u2062 for its involvement\u200d in the project and holds leadership \u200cpositions on four of \u200bits\u200d subcommittees, including the\u2064 crucial IT and Informatics \u200bsubcommittee. This raises concerns about the company&#8217;s control over the project&#8217;s key\u200b systems.<\/p>\n<p>The \u200csenators, including Roger \u2064Marshall of Kansas, Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, \u200bMarco Rubio of Florida, and Susan Collins \u2062of Maine,\u200d have \u200bsent a letter to the\u2064 USDA, questioning whether adequate measures have been taken to protect important data from \u2063being\u2062 weaponized by China.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our government must take extreme caution to \u200cprevent sponsoring research \u200dthat gives \u200dany sensitive materials and intellectual property to the Chinese Communist Party,&#8221; Senator Marshall emphasized.<\/p>\n<p>The senators also \u2063highlighted the \u200cpotential \u200cdangers of \u200cChina \u2062using genetic information to develop \u2063bio-weapons, posing a threat not only \u2064to the\u200d U.S.\u2062 but to all life on earth. \u2062They warned \u200dthat China \u2063is &#8220;weaponizing biotech in preparation for strategic advantage in a new domain of biological warfare.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>China&#8217;s track record of intellectual espionage \u200dand <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/senators-probing-biden-admin-after-discovery-of-collaboration-with-china-controlled-entity\/\" title=\"Senators Investigate Biden Admin Over China Collaboration\">strict data dissemination laws<\/a> further \u2062raise concerns about the security\u2062 of the USDA&#8217;s genome project.
