Spanning three decades and 32 movies, the MCU has generated billions in revenue from \u200bmovie tickets, licensing rights, toys,\u2064 and more.<\/p>\n<p>Love them or hate them, that&#8217;s an impressive feat. Especially considering that Iron Man was not a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/imax-ceo-relegates-disney-to-backup-wont-show-marvel-film-unless-dune-2-gets-delayed\/\" title=\"IMAX CEO puts Disney on hold, demands 'Dune 2' delay for Marvel film.\">top-tier hero<\/a> before the 2008 film. The birth\u2063 of the MCU was far from guaranteed \u2062at\u200b that time.<\/p>\n<p>However, despite all the financial success and clout\u200b Disney has gained, their blockbusters are now being \u200dconsidered &#8220;backup&#8221; \u200cfilms. IMAX CEO Richard Gelfond revealed this\u200b during \u2064an\u200d earnings call, stating that having a backup film is\u2063 &#8220;not the worst position to be in the world.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Gelfond was referring to the \u200cupcoming Disney\/Marvel movie &#8220;The Marvels&#8221; and how it may not be shown in IMAX\u2062 theaters due to the commitment to\u2063 the sequel of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/disgraced-golden-globes-group-announces-nominations-under-cloud-of-boycott-and-scandal\/\" title=\"Disgraced Golden Globes Group Announces Nominations Under Cloud of Boycott and Scandal\">sci-fi epic<\/a> &#8220;Dune.&#8221;\u2062 While Gelfond praised\u2063 &#8220;The Marvels,&#8221; he made it clear that &#8220;Dune: Part \u2064Two&#8221; would take precedence at IMAX.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately for Disney, Gelfond doesn&#8217;t expect &#8220;Dune: Part Two&#8221; to \u200bbe delayed, leaving &#8220;The Marvels&#8221; as a backup option for IMAX.<\/p>\n<p>Disney and Marvel are in desperate need of \u2062a\u200b win after a series of\u2064 business failures, which\u200c have resulted in mass layoffs. Recent disappointments include the poorly received &#8220;Haunted Mansion,&#8221; the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/zack-snyders-justice-league-is-well-worth-the-wait-and-the-four-hours-it-takes-to-watch-it\/\" title=\"Zack Snyder\u2019s Justice League\u00a0Is Well Worth The Wait \u2014 And The Four Hours It Takes To Watch It\">box office flop<\/a> &#8220;Indiana \u200bJones and the \u200bDial of Destiny,&#8221; and the underperforming &#8220;Elemental.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Disney&#8217;s situation is further exacerbated by the\u200d fact that their parks are\u200d also struggling. The only recent success for Disney\u200b has been &#8220;Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,&#8221; directed by James Gunn, who now oversees DC&#8217;s box office rival.<\/p>\n<p>With the\u2062 lack\u200d of interest \u200cin &#8220;The Marvels,&#8221; Disney is facing a significant crisis in 2023\u200d and beyond.
