California Didn&#8217;t Like This<\/h2>\n<p>Apparently, in some states, recycling can go \u200ctoo far.<\/p>\n<p>According to a media release from the office of the California attorney general on Tuesday, eight members of a family are \u200cbeing charged with fraud for a scheme that involved importing recyclables \u200dinto the Golden State from Arizona.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver an eight-month period, the \u200dsuspects defrauded California\u2019s beverage container <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/oregon-dems-use-recycling-bill-to-codify-equity-definition\/\" title=\"Oregon Dems Use Recycling Bill To Codify \u2018Equity\u2019 Definition\">recycling program<\/a> of\u200d $7.6 million by bringing tons\u200c of out-of-state materials from\u200c Arizona for redemption,\u201d read the <a href=\"https:\/\/oag.ca.gov\/news\/press-releases\/attorney-general-bonta-and-calrecycle-announce-charges-seizures-riverside-county\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/emergency-wisconsin-lawsuit-to-stop-certification-challenges-nearly-160000-votes\/\" title=\"Emergency Wisconsin Lawsuit To Stop Certification Challenges Nearly 160,000 Votes\">news release<\/a><\/a> from \u2062California Attorney \u200bGeneral <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ron-desantis-threatened-kidnapping-charges-accused-flying-illegal-aliens-california\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rob Bonta<\/a>, along with CalRecycle \u200bdirector Rachel Machi Wagoner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/family-criminally-charged-after-turning-in-178-tons-of-recyclable-cans-and-bottles-california-didnt-like-this\/\" title=\"Family Arrested for Recycling 178 Tons - California Unhappy\">facing multiple charges including recycling fraud<\/a>, \u2062grand theft, and conspiracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The family members \u2014 who,\u2063 according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.desertsun.com\/story\/news\/nation\/california\/2023\/07\/25\/eight-charged-in-7-6m-recycling-fraud-scheme-accused-of-smuggling-in-garbage-from-arizona\/70466294007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Palm\u200c Springs Desert Sun<\/a>, range in age from 23 to 58 \u2014 \u2064allegedly \u200dimported the recyclables to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-massive-police-chase-caught-video-riverside-county-sheriffs-deputy-murdered\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Riverside\u200b County<\/a> between October 2022 and June \u2063of this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCalifornia\u2019s recycling program is\u200d funded by consumers, and helps protect our environment and our communities,\u201d said \u2063Attorney General Bonta.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose who try to undermine its integrity through criminal operations will be held accountable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As Twitter users pointed out, this was once the plot\u200b of a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/seinfeld-star-quits-twitter-elon-musk-makes-minor-change-actors-profile\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Seinfeld<\/a>\u201d two-part episode in which\u200d Newman points out to Kramer that bottles and cans \u200bwhich were recycled for 5 cents in New York\u200b could be redeemed for 10 cents in Michigan. So, why not celebrate these fine \u2064folks? After all, these cans and bottles could have been just <strong>thrown away<\/strong> in a \u200bstate that didn\u2019t have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/damaged-solar-panels-hail-storm-will-likely-end-landfill-recycling-isnt-possible\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recycling program<\/a>! If California cares\u2064 about the environment and recycling is so great for it, it should \u200cwelcome entrepreneurs willing to take bottles and cans across state\u2063 lines\u200c when they might just get thrown away\u200d in Arizona.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, it might be that California\u2019s recycling program costs\u2062 its residents a truckload of money \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-californians-lose-millions-of-dollars-in-recycling-deposits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$308 million lost in 2018 alone<\/a>. And \u2062only material sold in California is eligible, which is why eight family members are now \u2064facing between $10,000 \u2064and $50,000 in bail costs.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s almost like one\u200c of the most leftmost states on the map \u2014 \u200bboth geographically\u2062 and politically \u2014 <strong>doesn\u2019t<\/strong> believe that its incentivized recycling program\u200d is a net good for the environment and more of a burden \u2062on \u2062taxpayers that politicians dare not drop yet, lest they be accused of anti-environmentalism.
