This \u200ccomes after positive engagement with the company regarding the handling of harmful content \u2064on the social media platform.<\/p>\n<p><h3>Commitment to\u200d Tackle Harmful Content<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n<p>Last month, \u2062the Malaysian Communications\u2062 and\u200d Multimedia \u2063Commission (MCMC) announced its intention\u200c to take legal action against Meta\u200b for its failure to\u2063 address &#8220;undesirable&#8221; content related \u2062to various sensitive topics. However, Fahmi\u200d stated that Meta has now made a firm commitment to collaborate with Malaysian authorities, including \u2063the regulator and the police,\u200b to address such posts on its platforms.<\/p>\n<p>According to Fahmi, the level\u200c of cooperation displayed by \u2063Meta is very positive, \u2063and he believes\u2064 that legal action may not\u200c be necessary \u2062at this\u2062 point. The government \u200cis also considering\u200d implementing fines against social media platforms that \u2062fail to effectively\u200b tackle harmful content.<\/p>\n<p><h3>Government Scrutiny and Freedom of Expression<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n<p>Facebook is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/chinese-internet-celebrity-sentenced-to-prison-forced-to-apologize-for-slandering-heroes-and-martyrs\/\" title=\"Chinese \u2018Internet Celebrity\u2019 Sentenced To Prison, Forced To Apologize For \u2018Slandering Heroes And Martyrs\u2019\">largest social media platform<\/a> in Malaysia, with approximately 60% of the \u2064country&#8217;s\u200c population having registered\u2063 accounts. Despite concerns raised about increased government scrutiny of online\u200d content, Fahmi\u200b dismissed the notion that the government is \u2064curbing freedom of expression. He clarified that the government draws the line \u2064at content related to race, religion,\u2062 and royalty.<\/p>\n<p>Fahmi\u2064 emphasized that the\u2064 government&#8217;s actions are not indicative of an iron-fisted dictatorship, \u2064and he believes such\u200d claims are\u2064 exaggerated. This move is part of the government&#8217;s plan to end the\u200c monopoly held by state-owned 5G agency Digital \u2064Nasional\u2063 Berhad (DNB).
