This new drug, called \u2062RiVive, has\u2063 been developed by Harm Reduction \u200bTherapeutics and is set to be available over the counter without a prescription starting next year.<\/p>\n<h3>A Breakthrough \u2063for Harm Reduction \u2064Therapeutics<\/h3>\n<p>Harm Reduction\u200b Therapeutics has become the first nonprofit pharmaceutical company to receive\u200d approval for an\u2064 opioid reversal drug. In a commendable move, the company \u2064plans to\u2064 produce\u200b 200,000\u200b doses of RiVive\u2062 for free.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ensuring naloxone is widely available, especially as an approved OTC product, makes a critical \u2063tool available \u200dto help protect public health,&#8221; stated FDA\u200d Commissioner Robert Califf. &#8220;The\u2062 agency has long prioritized access \u200dto \u200cnaloxone products, and\u200d we\u2063 welcome manufacturers of other naloxone products to discuss potential nonprescription development programs with \u2064the FDA.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>A Growing Crisis<\/h3>\n<p>With over 100,000\u200c overdose deaths reported\u2063 in the United\u2064 States last year, the need for effective\u200b solutions \u200dis more pressing than ever.
