min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>A stipulation of the settlement won by the\u2063 Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) requires SIUE officials \u201cto revise both\u2064 their policies and student handbook\u200b to ensure students with varying political, religious, and ideological views are welcome in the art \u200ctherapy program\u201d as \u2064well as pay $80,000 to dismiss \u2063the lawsuit successfully.<\/p>\n<p>The ADF\u2019s victory comes just a little over \u2062a year after art therapy \u200bstudent Maggie\u2064 DeJong was issued three \u201cno-contact orders\u201d from \u200cher university that prevented her\u200c from being in contact with three students\u2062 who claimed her political views were \u201charmful rhetoric\u201d and constituted \u201cdiscrimination.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>DeJong was known to have conservative\u2064 views, often participating in class discussions over topics \u2063like race relations, religion, COVID-19,\u2062 and censorship.<\/p>\n<p>No-contact orders were issued to her after her classmates disagreed \u200dwith a series of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/arkansas-street-preacher-is-pulled-over-placed-under-arrest-for-anti-lgbt-sermon-he-gave-a-year-before\/\" title=\"Arkansas Street Preacher Is Pulled Over, Placed Under Arrest for Anti-LGBT 'Sermon' He Gave a Year Before\">social media posts made<\/a> by DeJong about defunding the police and abortion laws.<\/p>\n<p>ADF Senior Counsel Tyson Langhoffer said the art student upset \u200dher classmates by defending Kyle Rittenhouse as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/texas-senate-bill-would-ban-critical-race-theory-in-schools\/\" title=\"Texas Senate Bill Would Ban Critical Race Theory In Schools\">denouncing critical race theory<\/a>, this led the university to take measures \u200dto prevent her from participating in \u200cclass \u2064discussions.<\/p>\n<p>ADF attorney Mathew \u2064Hoffmann said SIUE was \u201cwrong to issue gag orders and silence her speech.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cAs a result of Maggie\u2019s \u200dcourage\u200c in filing suit, SIUE has agreed to take critical steps to comply with the law and the U.S. Constitution and move closer\u2064 to accepting and embracing true diversity of thought and speech,\u201d Hoffmann stated\u2062 in the news\u2063 release.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote data-service=\"twitter\" data-category=\"marketing\" data-placeholder-image=\"https:\/\/c3.oann.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/complianz-gdpr\/assets\/images\/placeholders\/twitter-minimal.jpg\" class=\"cmplz-placeholder-element twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">VICTORY: We successfully settled the case against SIUE officials \u200cfor violating \u200cthe <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/1A?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#1A<\/a> rights of former art \u2063therapy grad student Maggie DeJong.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, 3 \u200cprofessors are required to attend an\u2064 ADF attorney-led First Amendment training, along with program policy changes.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Alliance\u2062 Defending Freedom (@ADFLegal) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ADFLegal\/status\/1684569488874938368?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 27, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script type=\"text\/plain\" data-service=\"twitter\" data-category=\"marketing\" async data-cmplz-src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script> <\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Stay informed!
