Police focused their\u2062 attention on Alex Friedmann, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-president-trump-gives-pardons-to-73-individuals-and-commutes-another-70-sentences-steve-bannon-is-included\/\" title=\"BREAKING: President Trump Gives Pardons to 73 Individuals and Commutes Another 70 Sentences \u2013 Steve Bannon Is Included\">criminal justice reform advocate<\/a> who had been previously caught entering\u2062 the\u200d building, known as\u200c the Davidson County Jail, under false pretenses at least three times.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Friedmann was arrested on\u2062 January 4, \u20642020,\u2062 and charged \u2064with attempted burglary, evidence tampering, and possession of\u200b burglary\u2063 tools.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Police alleged that Friedmann dressed as a construction worker in a yellow vest\u200c and dust mask and entered \u200dthe detention center\u2063 numerous times while it was being built. On one occasion, he was seen spray painting around the door to the key control room. Then,\u2062 he entered the room and\u2064 stole a key ring, leaving through\u200b the front\u200d lobby. Two hours later, he returned\u200c and replaced the keyring \u2013\u2064 with two\u200b missing.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">During Friedmann\u2019s arrest, police officers discovered an igloo cooler that he had carried into the facility, which contained bolt cutters and a document \u200blater \u2063identified as the\u2064 schematics \u2064of the detention center. A video also showed Friedmann attempting to \u2064destroy the document by ripping and chewing\u200b it.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe seriousness of Mr. Friedmann\u2019s charges cannot be ignored. His \u2063actions have placed the \u200dsafety and\u200d security of our entire community in\u200c peril, not to mention DCSO\u200c staff and inmates,\u201d Sheriff Daron Hall \u2062said \u2064at the time\u200c of \u200dFriedmann\u2019s \u200carrest.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In early February 2020, the DCSO announced that all 1,800 locks would have to be replaced following Friedmann\u2019s actions. At the time, Hall <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newschannel5.com\/news\/alex-friedmann-to-be-sentenced-for-felony-vandalism-charge-thursday#:~:text=Alex%20Friedmann%2C%20a%20criminal%20justice,years%20in%20prison%20on%20Thursday.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">called<\/a> the case the \u201cmost significant \u200csecurity breach \u2062in Nashville history.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Weeks after that announcement, police announced\u2063 it had discovered a major escape plan put in the works by Friedmann, who was arrested \u200dagain on\u2062 February 18 and accused of hiding loaded guns, ammunition, and \u2064tools inside\u2062 the jail over a months-long period while it was being built.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThroughout the last several \u2064weeks it \u2062was \u2064discovered\u200c that Mr. Friedmann, over many months,\u2063 had developed and implemented an extremely deliberate \u2013\u2063 and in my opinion evil \u2013 plan,\u201d Hall said during \u2063a press conference in \u2062February 2020. \u201cUnderstand, this plan went \u200cfar \u2063beyond vandalism. Ultimately it included \u2062planting\u2062 various \u200btools, weapons, security equipment throughout this facility. All designed to assist \u2062in \u2062a massive escape plan.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hall went on to\u2062 explain how Friedmann had planted loaded \u200bguns and ammunition in the detention center\u2063 while \u2062it was being built.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWhat \u200bdisturbed me most is not that this was\u200c about \u2062an\u2063 escape,\u201d Hall said. \u201cIt was \u200dalso about loss of life.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In July\u2062 2022, Friedmann was found guilty of causing\u200b more than $250,000 worth of damage to the jail. Months later, in \u2063September, Friedmann\u200d submitted a letter to the court asking for leniency and blaming a jail \u200dgang rape as the reason he \u2064planted the gun \u2013 in case\u200b he was ever arrested again.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In\u2063 October 2022, Friedmann was sentenced to 40 years in prison for his crimes.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Friedmann became a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/what-wokes-worth-and-why\/\" title=\"What Woke\u2019s Worth and Why\">criminal justice advocate<\/a> after he spent\u200c a decade in prison\u200c for an assault charge during an\u2064 armed robbery in Nashville\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newschannel5.com\/news\/alex-friedmann-claims-jail-gang-rape-led-to-him-planting-guns-in-the-davidson-county-jail\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">back in\u200d 1987<\/a>. While in prison, \u2063he began writing for the Human Rights Defense Center\u2019s monthly publication, Prison Legal News. Once he was \u2062out of prison, he became a staff member for the advocacy group but resigned after\u200c his\u200b January 2020 arrest.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In\u2063 2016,\u2062 Friedman worked on Sen. Bernie Sanders\u2019\u2063 (I-VT) presidential campaign as one of several consultants for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-red-wave-of-conservative-women-elected-to-congress\/\" title=\"The Red Wave of Conservative Women Elected to Congress\">criminal justice issues<\/a>, Fox News \u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/fmr-sanders-consultant-arrested-after-allegedly-planting-weapons-in-jail-for-evil-escape-plot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In January 2020, an audit conducted by lieutenants at the newly built downtown detention center in Nashville, Tennessee, revealed that two facility keys were missing.
