the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The statement was silent on<span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\"> \u200d McConnell<\/span>&#8216;s plans for the next \u200bCongress, which begins in\u2064 January 2025.<span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\"> McConnell<\/span>, 81, is \u200bserving a six-year \u200bterm that runs through 2026.<\/p>\n<p><em>Politico<\/em> first reported \u200dthe statement on Thursday evening.<\/p>\n<h3>Upcoming Challenges for Congress<\/h3>\n<p>Congress has just\u2063 begun a long summer recess, with senators scheduled to return \u200con Sept. 5.<\/p>\n<p>In September, the Senate and the House of Representatives will be staring down a Sept. 30 deadline \u2064for agreeing on 12 complicated bills to fund the\u2064 government in the fiscal year beginning Oct. \u20641.<\/p>\n<p>The top\u200b four Democratic and Republican leaders in Congress, including<span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\"> McConnell<\/span>,\u200b typically play a crucial role in\u2063 this effort \u2063as they try to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mcconnell-plans-to-serve-his-full-term\/\" title=\"McConnell intends to complete his entire term.\">avert partial government shutdowns<\/a> for a lack of funds.<\/p>\n<p><span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">McConnell<\/span>&#8216;s Republicans\u2062 will aim to retake their majority in the chamber in next year&#8217;s election, which could also see a rematch between Democratic President Joe Biden and\u200c his\u2062 Republican predecessor, Donald Trump, \u200dwho is currently \u200cleading\u2062 his party&#8217;s field of candidates for the 2024 nomination.<\/p>\n<h3>McConnell&#8217;s Recent Episode<\/h3>\n<p>The longest-serving Senate party\u200d leader in history began a \u2062regular scheduled press conference on Wednesday only to freeze up for 21 seconds, standing still and staring straight \u2064ahead before his \u200bcolleagues leaned\u200b in \u2062to ask if he was well.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Are you \u2064OK, Mitch?\u2063 Anything else you want to say or\u200c should we just \u2064go back to your office?&#8221; Senator John Barrasso asked before<span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\"> McConnell <\/span>turned and walked away with the help of Barrasso, a physician.<\/p>\n<p><span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">McConnell <\/span>rejoined the press conference about 12 minutes later, saying, &#8220;I&#8217;m fine&#8221; and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-cant-remember-if-he-talked-to-east-palestine-mayor\/\" title=\"Biden \"Can't Remember\" If He Talked to East Palestine Mayor\">answering reporters&#8217; questions<\/a> on other topics.<\/p>\n<p>He batted away a question \u2062about \u2064who might succeed him in leadership.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday,<span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\"> McConnell<\/span>&#8216;s spokesperson did not provide any explanation for what had caused \u200cthe lightheadedness the senator experienced during Wednesday&#8217;s episode.<\/p>\n<p><span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">McConnell <\/span>had been sidelined from the Senate earlier \u2064this year after he tripped at a \u200bWashington dinner on March 8 and was admitted to a hospital for treatment of a\u2062 concussion. \u200dHe also suffered a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/senate-minority-leader-mitch-mcconnell-discharged-from-hospital\/\" title=\"Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell Discharged From Hospital\">minor rib fracture<\/a> and was later moved to a rehabilitation facility. He returned to the \u2063Senate in April.<\/p>\n<h3>Aging Concerns in Washington<\/h3>\n<p>Many top figures in Washington are of advanced age, with President Joe Biden running for reelection at 80 and the average age in the Senate above 64.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic senator Dianne Feinstein (Calif.) was sidelined for months this year after a bout of\u200c shingles \u200cthat caused complications including encephalitis and Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which can cause\u200d facial paralysis.<\/p>\n<p>A majority of\u200b Americans, some 61 percent,\u200c told a November Reuters\/Ipsos poll that they were very or somewhat \u200dconcerned\u2062 that members of Congress are too old to \u200brepresent the American people.<\/p>\n<h3>McConnell&#8217;s Leadership and Legislative Skills<\/h3>\n<p><span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">McConnell <\/span>served as Senate majority leader from 2015 to \u20642021 and as Senate \u200cminority \u200dleader since then.
