And \u2063yet, the Executive Branch routinely redacts and entirely withholds information in \u2063other domains that we are \u2064entitled to, and is\u2063 doing so here.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>A\u200b Call for a Select Committee<\/h3>\n<p>In a letter sent to Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) on Friday, the group demanded the House leader establish a select committee tasked with\u200b investigating \u2064those sightings, as \u200cwell as whether the Pentagon is intentionally \u200dwithholding information related to UAP. The request comes after\u2064 three former \u200cmilitary officials testified before lawmakers\u200d on the House\u200c Oversight\u2064 Committee, claiming the government knows more about UAPs than \u2064previously reported.<\/p>\n<p>The request specifically\u2063 presses McCarthy to establish\u2062 a committee with subpoena authority that will\u200c allow lawmakers to\u200d collect information from the Pentagon that has\u200d previously been blocked\u2064 by military officials.\u2063 The select \u200ccommittee should also be \u200cexempt from the jurisdiction of other House committees to ensure its work is\u2063 unimpeded, they \u200bwrote.<\/p>\n<h3>Investigating Government Oversight<\/h3>\n<p>Lawmakers assigned to \u200dthe committee would be tasked with \u200bnot only determining\u2064 whether UAP sightings\u2064 pose a security\u200c risk to the\u200b United States but \u200cwould also investigate \u201cmore significant issues of government \u200boversight,\u201d the letter states. \u200bThose areas include a lack of budget transparency, overclassification, and lack \u2064of cooperation with congressional\u2062 inquiries.<\/p>\n<p>The letter is being led by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and is also signed by Oversight members Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), Tim Burchett (R-TN), and Jared Moskowitz \u200d(R-FL). The request builds on previous \u2063efforts from \u200dlawmakers to investigate UAPs, which members say have been\u2063 stonewalled by the U.S. government to withhold the information.<\/p>\n<h3>Concerns about Government Transparency and Accountability<\/h3>\n<p>The witness testimony and lack of information from U.S. officials have raised concerns among lawmakers not \u2062just\u2063 about national security but about government transparency and accountability \u2014 which became a focal point\u200c of question during this week\u2019s hearing.\u200b Lawmakers are\u200b also expected to introduce legislation that would require the federal government to provide information about UAPs, pressing the Pentagon to release any investigative findings to the public.<\/p>\n<p>The\u2062 Defense Department was directed by Congress to create the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office in 2022 to\u200d investigate reported UAP sightings.
