According to a report from the Centers for Disease Control \u2063and Prevention (CDC), an estimated 110,000 people were affected \u200bby \u2063this little-known illness between 2010 and 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>The\u2062 Alpha-Gal Syndrome<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This illness, known \u2064as alpha-gal syndrome (AGS), is caused by the bite of a Lone \u2062Star tick. These ticks are mostly found in the South, as well as many Eastern and Midwest states. AGS can lead to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fda-approves-pfizer-covid-19-vaccine-for-adolescents-ages-12-15\/\" title=\"FDA Approves Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine For Adolescents Ages 12-15\">severe allergic reactions<\/a> to red meat, including pork, beef, rabbit, lamb, venison,\u200c and even\u200c mammal products like milk.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dr. Ann Carpenter, an epidemiologist and lead author of one of the papers released by the CDC, emphasizes the importance of awareness and \u200dprevention. It&#8217;s critical for \u2063clinicians to be aware of AGS so they can properly evaluate,\u200b diagnose, and manage their patients and also educate them on tick-bite\u200c prevention to \u200dprotect patients from developing this allergic condition.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Unfamiliarity Among\u200b Healthcare Providers<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Unfortunately, many doctors and healthcare providers \u2062are still unfamiliar with AGS. The CDC warns\u200d that the allergic reactions \u2062caused by the tick bite can be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-disturbing-details-emerge-about-activities-involving-the-wuhan-institute-of-virology\/\" title=\"New Disturbing Details Emerge About Activities Involving The Wuhan Institute Of Virology\">potentially life-threatening<\/a>. In fact, \u2064a study conducted among healthcare professionals found that\u200c nearly half of them had never heard of AGS, and around one-third of respondents lacked confidence in their ability to diagnose or\u200d manage\u2063 patients with\u2063 AGS.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dr. Johanna Salzer, who authored both papers on AGS released by the CDC, highlights the burden\u200c of this syndrome. Eating out at a restaurant becomes a struggle, as even a veggie burger prepared on the same grill with meat patties can cause a reaction. Breathing in fumes from red meat can also trigger symptoms.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Symptoms and Prevention<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Symptoms of AGS include\u2063 hives or itchy rash, nausea or vomiting, heartburn or indigestion, diarrhea, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty \u2064breathing, drop in blood pressure, swelling of the lips, throat, tongue, or eyelids, dizziness or faintness, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/brazilian-influencer-wheel-chair-bound-after-holding-farts-in-over-embarrassment-report\/\" title=\"Brazilian Influencer Wheel-Chair Bound After Holding Farts In Over Embarrassment: Report\">severe stomach pain<\/a>.
