Because there\u2019s nothing the left loves more than the \u201cBrokeback \u200bMountain\u201d motif.<\/p>\n<p>The NPR subhead \u200dsaid Childers teamed up with \u200chis friend to \u201ctell \u2062a \u2063queer love story.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven if you have the privilege of walking through this \u200cworld unfazed, \u2063it\u2019s more important than \u2063ever to stand with and for and up for things, to\u200d be vocal,\u201d the singer told\u2063 the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>What \u200bdoes \u201cbeing vocal\u201d entail?<\/p>\n<p>Try \u2064to get through this paragraph of 150-proof <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/npr-celebrates-america-gone-full-banana-republic-finally-indicting-opposition-leaders-like-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NPR blather<\/a> from Ann Powers with \u2064a straight face, dear reader:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cChilders was sequestered with \u200dhis wife Senora and new son at \u200dhome in Kentucky when\u200c the Black Lives Matter \u2063movement and the pandemic inspired \u2062a nationwide outpouring of protest. A period of self-assessment led the\u2063 songwriter,\u2063 known\u200d for his richly detailed portraits of contemporary\u200b rural life, to become more explicit about his beliefs. First came <em>Long Violent History<\/em>, a bluegrass album\u00a0framed\u00a0by a\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/popular-country-artist-goes-fully-woke-with-new-queer-love-song\/\" title=\"Country artist embraces inclusivity with new 'Queer Love' anthem.\">stirring anthem decrying racial injustice<\/a>. Then a \u2063triple album\u2062 with his band The Food Stamps, <em>Can\u200c I Take My Hounds To Heaven?<\/em>,\u200d confronted religious intolerance while\u200c holding on to\u200d the joy of worship. Now, Childers \u2063has \u2064enlisted his \u2062good\u200c friend, the\u2062 noted author and Kentucky poet laureate\u00a0Silas House, to write a video for his new \u200dsong, \u2018In Your Love,\u2019 \u200dthat tells a sweeping story of love between two men.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>So basically\u200d he watched \u2062the summer of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/cnn-mocked-labeling-kenosha-mostly-peaceful-footage-showed-opposite\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fiery \u2064but mostly peaceful<\/a>\u201d protests on CNN, then\u2063 got himself done\u200b woked and tried to court minor controversies. Whoop de\u2064 doo.<\/p>\n<p>You wouldn\u2019t know the subject of \u201cIn Your Love\u201d from the <a href=\"https:\/\/genius.com\/Tyler-childers-in-your-love-lyrics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lyrics<\/a>,\u200b however, which are vapid enough to make Bush (the 1990s band, not the presidents or Kate) seem deep.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the \u200cchorus:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>We were never \u2063made to run forever<\/em><br \/><em>We were just\u2064 meant to go long enough<\/em><br \/><em>To find \u200bwhat we were\u200d chasing after<\/em><br \/><em>I believe I found it here<\/em><br \/><em>In your love.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The video, on the other hand, makes it clear that the otherwise \u200danodyne love\u200b song is supposed to be about gay\u200d miners, because how else is a country troubadour \u2063going to bait <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/fact-check-much-pbs-npr-revenue-comes-government-funding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NPR<\/a> into caring about it?<\/p>\n<p>In the clip, an\u200d old farmer finds\u200d a four-leaf clover as his horse is plowing a field and goes into flashback mode, because \u200dthis is\u2064 how we\u2019re supposed to \u2064know these were the Old Days of Intolerant People.<\/p>\n<p>Soon, two dudes are pick-axing away in the coal\u200c mines\u2064 and then lounging in a forest \u200cclearing. One of them finds a four-leaf clover and they share a\u200d look. One moves his hand closer to the other\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>We get another \u2062coal-mine shot. Then, another miner spots the \u2064two guys making out. Then there\u2019s a \u200dfight\u200d down in the mine, complete with shaky-cam. One of the lovers is sucker-punched, because that\u2019s just how bigots roll.<\/p>\n<p>Soon, the\u2064 two gay lovebirds get \u2063a house together, work <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/year-remember-wrong-reasons-farmers-face-crop-disaster-weather-throws-wrench-harvesting-plans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the farm<\/a>, and then they\u2019re\u200b at a Tyler Childers concert with the Food Stamps.<\/p>\n<p>Then one of them gets sick with \u200dan unnamed condition and we \u200cget the inevitable montage of chest-clutching, oxygen-inhaling, and finally the healthy partner nursing\u2062 the sick partner in \u200cwhat \u2064we assume to \u2064be his final days.<\/p>\n<p>Then we flash-forward to the other partner as an old\u200b man considering\u2064 the four-leaf clover he found.<\/p>\n<p>Deep, man.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em><strong>WARNING: The following video contains scenes that some viewers will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/attack-ad-from-left-wing-activists-allowed-to-trend-on-twitter-inciting-violence-against-conservatives-the-liberty-loft\/\" title=\"Attack Ad From Left-Wing Activists Allowed to Trend On Twitter Inciting Violence Against Conservatives\">find offensive<\/a>.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"firefly-embed\">\n<\/div>\n<p>Boy, that\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/fact-check-ford-rolled-lgbt-gay-raptor-truck\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">some allyship<\/a>, all right.<\/p>\n<p>Needless to say, traditional country fans and conservatives on social media were less impressed with this than the legacy media was:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Just what \u2064we\u200d were\u2064 all waiting for a\u200d song about 2 gay\u200b coal miners  I\u200d miss the purgatory\u2063 days.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Josh Hunt (@jdhunt08) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jdhunt08\/status\/1684571722698444808?\">July \u206227, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">So\u2062 disappointed\u2026 used to be my 2nd favorite artist. \u200dhusband, Jason Kyle Howard,\u201d \u200cHudak said.\u2064 \u201cA statement from House\u200b about the video, directed by\u2064 Bryan Schlam and \u200bstarring Colton Haynes and James Scully, echoes\u2062 the desire for representation in country music that many still find themselves denied.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Again, this is what\u2019s hilarious about outlets <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/fathers-day-npr-style-public-broadcaster-celebrates-pregnant-dad-tax-dollars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">like NPR<\/a> and\u2063 Rolling Stone paying attention to Childers\u2019 video for no other reason than it \u2064features a gay love story: While\u2064 both outlets are covering \u200cthis\u200d because \u200dit\u2019s country mixed\u200d with LGBT themes,\u200c neither expresses much interest in mainstream country music unless it\u2019s covering\u200d the controversies.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of representation, blue-collar Americans \u2014 particularly those\u2063 who like country music \u2014 are especially underrepresented by both unless they\u2019re being chastised or there\u2019s some sort of woke quasi-subversion going on. Otherwise, nobody at \u2064either media \u200bnode could\u200d care less about what they see as idiot rednecks.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, those folks \u2064still stream songs and watch videos, and they tend \u2064to choose artists that give the people at NPR and Rolling Stone fits.<\/p>\n<p>Three of the\u200d top five positions on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/charts\/hot-100\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Billboard 100<\/a> singles chart for the week of July 29 are filled with\u2062 country\u2064 ditties \u2064the media loves to hate: \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/jason-aldeans-try-small-town-rockets-1-billboards-hot-country-chart\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Try That in a Small Town<\/a>\u201d at No. 2, \u201cLast Night\u201d by the \u2062uncancelable <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/morgan-wallen-continues-defy-cancel-culture-one-song-gets-1-billboard-country-music-charts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Morgan Wallen<\/a> \u200cat No. \u200c3 \u200cand \u201cFast Car\u201d by Luke Combs \u2014 who\u2019s been\u2064 vilified by the\u200b media for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/washington-post-humiliated-trying-make-country-cover-tracy-chapmans-fast-car-racial-issue\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">covering a song by a black\u2064 LGBT \u2062artist<\/a> while he\u2019s a\u200d white, \u201ccis\u201d country singer \u2014 at No. 4.<\/p>\n<p>I could be wrong, \u2062but my assumption is \u200cthat no amount of\u2064 allyship and pandering will bestow the \u200csame degree of success upon Tyler Childers. Instead, this\u2019ll \u200dgo over every bit as well as a warm, skunked tall-boy of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/bad-news-bud-light-discovered-inside-fridge-country-artists-concert\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bud Light<\/a> at \u2062a honky-tonk.<\/p>\n<p>Alas, naturally, the NPRs of the world will just use that as further \u2064evidence of country fans\u2019 bigotry \u2014 as opposed to acknowledging the fact it \u200dwas a bland song\u2063 made vaguely controversial by throwing\u2062 in a woke music video.<\/p>\n<p>Wash, rinse, repeat.
