and &#8220;The Best of My Love&#8221; and stepped out front for the waltz-time ballad\u200d &#8220;Take It \u200cto the\u200d Limit,&#8221; has \u200bdied, the band said \u200bThursday.<\/p>\n<p>Meisner died\u200b Wednesday night in\u200d Los \u200bAngeles of complications from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/eagles-founding-member-dies-at-age-77\/\" title=\"Eagles co-founder passes away at 77.\">chronic obstructive\u2063 pulmonary disease<\/a>, the Eagles said in \u200da statement.\u200b He was 77.<\/p>\n<p>The bassist had endured\u200d numerous afflictions in recent years \u2064and personal tragedy in 2016 when his wife, Lana Rae Meisner, accidentally shot herself and died.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Randy Meisner had been diagnosed \u200bwith bipolar disorder and had severe issues with alcohol, according to court records and comments made during a 2015\u2062 hearing in which a judge ordered him to receive constant medical care.<\/p>\n<p>Called &#8220;the sweetest man in\u200d the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/singer-olivia-rodrigo-claims-she-grew-up-thinking-only-white-girls-could-be-pop-stars\/\" title=\"Singer Olivia Rodrigo Claims She Grew Up Thinking Only White Girls Could Be Pop Stars\">music business<\/a>&#8221; by former \u200dbandmate Don Felder, the baby-faced \u200cMeisner joined Don Henley, Glenn Frey and Bernie Leadon in the early \u200d1970s to form one of the most popular acts in history.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Randy was an integral \u2064part of the Eagles and instrumental in the early\u200d success of the band,&#8221; the Eagles&#8217; statement said. &#8220;His vocal range was astonishing, as is \u200cevident on his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/eagles-co-founding-member-randy-meisner-dies-at-77\/\" title=\"Randy Meisner, Eagles Co-Founder, Passes Away at 77.\">signature ballad<\/a>, &#8216;Take It to the Limit.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Funeral\u2062 Plans Pending<\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Evolving from country rock to hard rock, the Eagles turned out a run of hit singles and albums over the next decade,\u200b starting with &#8220;Take It\u200c Easy&#8221; and continuing with &#8220;Desperado,&#8221; &#8220;Hotel California&#8221; and &#8220;Life In the \u2063Fast Lane,&#8221; among others.<\/p>\n<p>Although chastised by some critics \u200das slick and superficial, the \u2064Eagles released two of the most popular albums of all time, &#8220;Hotel California&#8221; \u2064and &#8220;Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975),&#8221; \u2064which, with \u200csales at 38 million, the \u200bRecording Industry Association\u2062 of America\u200b ranked\u2063 with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/decade-old-post-warns-new-yorkers-jordan-neely-stay-away-michael-jackson-impersonator\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Michael Jackson&#8217;s<\/a> &#8220;Thriller&#8221; as the No. \u20641 seller.<\/p>\n<p>Led by singer-songwriters\u2063 Henley and Frey, the Eagles were initially branded as \u200b&#8221;mellow&#8221; and \u2063&#8221;easy listening.&#8221; But by their third album, the 1974 release \u2063&#8221;On the Border,&#8221; they had added \u200ca rock guitarist, Felder, and were turning away from country and bluegrass.<\/p>\n<p>Leadon, an old-fashioned bluegrass picker, \u2062was unhappy with the\u2064 new sound and\u200b left after the 1975 album\u2063 &#8220;One of These Nights.&#8221; (He was replaced by another rock guitarist, Joe Walsh.)<\/p>\n<p>Meisner stayed on through\u2064 the \u20621976 release of &#8220;Hotel California,&#8221; \u2063the band&#8217;s\u2062 most \u200cacclaimed record, but was gone soon after.<\/p>\n<p>His\u200d departure, ironically, was touched off\u2063 by the song he \u2064co-wrote and was \u2064best known for, &#8220;Take It to\u2062 the Limit.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A shy Nebraskan torn between fame\u200d and family life, Meisner had been\u2062 ill and homesick during the &#8220;Hotel \u2063California&#8221; tour (his first marriage was breaking up) and was reluctant to have the spotlight for &#8220;Take It to the Limit,&#8221;\u200b a showcase for\u200b his nasally\u200c tenor.<\/p>\n<p>His objections during a Knoxville, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/journalist-fighting-obtain-nashville-shooter-manifesto-receives-chilling-death-threat-go-prison-end\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tennessee<\/a>, concert in the summer of 1977 so angered \u2063Frey \u200dthat the \u2064two argued backstage and Meisner left soon after.<\/p>\n<p>His \u200dreplacement, \u2062Timothy B. Schmit,\u2064 remained with the \u200bgroup over the following decades, along with Henley, Walsh and Frey, who \u200cdied in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>As a solo \u2063artist, Meisner never approached the success of\u200d the Eagles, but\u200b did have hits with &#8220;Hearts On Fire&#8221; and &#8220;Deep Inside My Heart&#8221; and\u200d played on records by Walsh, James Taylor and Dan Fogelberg among others.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Continued Musical \u2063Journey<\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Meanwhile, \u2063the Eagles ended a 14-year hiatus in 1994 and toured\u200c with Schmit even though Meisner\u2064 had played on all but one of their earlier\u200b studio \u200balbums.<\/p>\n<p>He did join group members past and present in 1998 when they \u2064were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall \u200bof Fame and \u200dperformed &#8220;Take It Easy&#8221; and &#8220;Hotel California.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>A Lasting Legacy<\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>For a decade, he was part of World Classic Rockers, a \u2062touring act that at\u200d various times included\u200c Donovan, Spencer Davis and Denny Laine.<\/p>\n<p>Meisner was married twice, the first time when he was still in his teens, \u2062and had three kids.<\/p>\n<p>The son of sharecroppers and \u2064grandson\u200b of\u2064 a classical violinist, Meisner was playing \u2064in local\u200d bands as a teenager and by the end of the \u20641960s had moved to California and joined\u200d a country rock group,\u200c Poco, along with Richie Furay and\u2062 Jimmy Messina. But\u2062 he would remember being angered that Furay wouldn&#8217;t let him\u2062 listen \u200bto the \u200bstudio \u2062mix of their first album \u200dand \u200dleft the group \u200cbefore it came out: His successor was\u200c Timothy B. Schmit.<\/p>\n<p>Meisner\u2064 backed Ricky Nelson, played on Taylor&#8217;s &#8220;Sweet Baby James&#8221;\u2063 album and befriended Henley and Frey when all \u200dwere performing \u2064in \u2063Linda Ronstadt&#8217;s band.
