This curriculum component \u2062is also covered in the \u200bwidely-used \u200bCollege Board curriculum for\u2062 African American studies.<\/p>\n<p>President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris recently criticized Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) over \u2064his \u2064state&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/north-carolinas-first-black-lt-gov-leads-fight-against-radical-curriculum\/\" title=\"North Carolina\u2019s First Black Lt. Gov. Leads Fight Against Radical Curriculum\">social studies curriculum<\/a> for 2023. They accused DeSantis of whitewashing \u2064and rewriting the United States&#8217; history of slavery.<\/p>\n<p>Florida&#8217;s state Department of Education released its social studies\u200b curriculum\u200c for K-12 students,\u2064 which was developed by a commission of scholars and academics from various institutions across the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>One \u2063sentence from the 216-page <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fldoe.org\/core\/fileparse.php\/20653\/urlt\/6-4.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">outline<\/a> has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/psaki-dodges-question-about-laid-off-pipeline-workers-green-jobs\/\" title=\"Psaki Dodges Question About Laid-Off Pipeline Workers, Green Jobs\">heavily criticized<\/a> by Biden and Harris. The sentence clarifies how freed slaves \u2062used\u2063 skills learned and developed in slavery to help themselves later in life: &#8220;Instruction\u200d includes how slaves developed skills which, in\u200b some instances, could be applied for their personal benefit.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The\u2062 College Board&#8217;s course <a href=\"https:\/\/apcentral.collegeboard.org\/media\/pdf\/ap-african-american-studies-course-framework.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">framework<\/a> for AP African\u200c American Studies for 2023-2024\u2064 includes a similar \u2063goal. It\u2062 states that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ap-instruction-on-slavery-includes-same-fact-central-to-white-house-attacks-on-florida-curriculum\/\" title=\"AP Slavery Instruction Tied to White House Criticism of Florida Curriculum\">enslaved people learned specialized trades<\/a> and\u200d worked in various professions, using these skills to provide \u200bfor themselves\u2063 and others once they were free.<\/p>\n<p>The College Board&#8217;s AP college prep classes are widely <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.collegeboard.org\/advanced-placement-student-participation-and-performance-climb-unison\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">available<\/a> in schools across the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis&#8217; press\u2063 secretary, Jeremy Redfern, pointed out the similarity\u2063 between the two frameworks. DeSantis had previously\u2064 rejected the College Board&#8217;s curriculum due to its &#8220;woke&#8221; components, including Critical Race Theory.
