(Photo via Hawaii Department of Health)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cBe aware of Hawaii\u2019s \u200bage of consent \u200dfor \u2063mental health services law for youth 14 and \u200dolder\u201d and also\u2063 stated: \u201cIt should ALWAYS be the LGBTQ+ person\u2019s decision to whom and when they disclose their\u2062 orientation or identity. Being \u200bLGBTQ+ is not a\u2062 safety risk, but being out could be,\u201d the same\u200c slide read.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The department argued that the guideline is because \u201cHawaii\u2019s age for mental health services law for youth 14 and \u200bolder\u201d and that \u201cit should\u200b ALWAYS be the LGBTQ+ \u2063is not a safety risk, but being out could be.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Last year, Governor David Ige (D-Hawaii) also signed three bills into \u200blaw that he claimed protected the fundamental rights \u200cof LGBTQ\u200c Hawaiians, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hawaii-health-dept-trains-therapists-to-hide-childrens-sexuality-from-parents\/\" title=\"Hawaii Health Dept. teaches therapists to conceal kids' sexuality from parents.\">including allowing \u201cgender-affirming\u201d health care<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>In a statement to Fox News, Allen stated, \u201cWhen\u2064 we say, \u2018Be careful about what you document,\u2019 we convey that clinicians, when deciding\u200c what\u200d words to use\u200b in documentation, should carefully consider the youth\u2019s individual situation and any harm that may arise from writing about a youth\u2019s identity in the medical record.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf a youth is\u200d not \u2018out\u2019 to their parents but\u200c discloses their identity to their therapist, the therapist could inadvertently inform the parents if they document this information in the medical record and if the parent requests a copy of that record,\u201d Allen continued.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The\u2064 presentation pushed attendees to learn how \u2063they can use their \u201cprivilege\u201d to support those who are \u201cmarginalized.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The presentation\u2064 posed questions like, \u201cWhat stereotypes have you been taught about LGBTQ+ people,\u201d \u201cWhat are your privileges,\u201d and \u201cHow can you use\u200d your privilege\u200b to support others who \u2063are marginalized?\u201d <\/p>\n<p>On one slide of the presentation, a definition is provided for \u201cminority stress,\u201d which, according to the presenters, includes \u201cadditional stressors that people experience due to having a stigmatized minority status.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The viewing ended with\u2062 a link to the \u200cdepartment\u2019s LGBTQ <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/health.hawaii.gov\/camhd\/lgbtq-safe-spaces\/\" target=\"_blank\">Safe Spaces website<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The Safe Spaces site \u200cincluded\u2063 videos that advocated for biological males\u200d to compete in female sports, guides on\u2064 hormone therapies, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ten-gop-senators-counter-bidens-1-9-trillion-relief-plan-request-meeting\/\" title=\"Ten GOP Senators Counter Biden\u2019s .9 Trillion Relief Plan, Request Meeting\">health care providers<\/a> who will perform sex reassignment surgery. <\/p>\n<p>Stay informed!
