Additionally, the First Amendment guarantees religious freedom and prohibits compelling others to affirm ideas that may be contrary to their personal religious beliefs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Arlington Public Schools said it will not be complying with the new policies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have reviewed the model policies and determined that our current policies and policy implementation procedures that protect the rights of our transgender students will stay as is,\u201d Arlington Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Francisco Dur\u00e1n <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/some-virginia-school-districts-rejecting-governors-policy-transgender-bathrooms-preferred-pronouns\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> in a statement last week.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILY WIRE APP<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He defended Arlington\u2019s policies, saying they comply with previous court decisions and the Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMoreover, they are in alignment with decisions from the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1973, and the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. I oppose any policy that infringes upon the rights of our students and threatens the safety and well-being of our LGBTQIA+ students,\u201d Dur\u00e1n said.<\/p>\n<p>Alexandria City Public Schools, a district just outside Washington, D.C., also appeared to reject the model policies this week, with the superintendent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alxnow.com\/2023\/07\/25\/acps-ignores-gov-youngkins-recommended-policies-restricting-transgender-students\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">saying<\/a> she was \u201cdismayed\u201d when the policies were introduced.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201c[W]e want to reaffirm our commitment to all students, staff and families, including our LGBTQIA+ community, that ACPS will continue to both implement and develop gender affirming policies for all ACPS students,\u201d Superintendent Melanie Kay-Wyatt and School Board Chair Michelle Rief <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alxnow.com\/2023\/07\/25\/acps-ignores-gov-youngkins-recommended-policies-restricting-transgender-students\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> in a joint statement on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>They said the district already has a policy adopted in 1996 that \u201cprotects students from discrimination due to gender expression, gender identity, sexual harassment and transgender status.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Stafford County and Fairfax County public school districts also already <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox5dc.com\/news\/alexandria-city-public-schools-joins-list-of-districts-rejecting-states-new-policies-for-transgender-students-governor-glenn-youngkin-model-policies-lgbtqia-youth-minors-schools\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">have<\/a> policies on the books that do not comply with the Youngkin administration\u2019s new guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>Loudoun County and Prince William County Public Schools are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox5dc.com\/news\/alexandria-city-public-schools-joins-list-of-districts-rejecting-states-new-policies-for-transgender-students-governor-glenn-youngkin-model-policies-lgbtqia-youth-minors-schools\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reportedly<\/a> currently reviewing the new model policies.<\/p>\n<p>Youngkin\u2019s office placed the onus on school districts to \u201cfollow the law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe law states Virginia Department of Education shall provide and school boards shall adopt.
