min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>This comes as Bankman-Fried, 31, is fighting to avoid jail time ahead\u2063 of his October 2<sup>nd<\/sup> trial, where he will face several wire and securities fraud charges, after prosecutors in Manhattan \u2064accused him of tampering with witnesses by sharing personal written\u200c statements from his former romantic partner and CEO of Alameda Research, Caroline Ellison, with a reporter from the New York Times.<\/p>\n<p>Bankman-Fried is no stranger to precarious \u2063situations with the law, and many prosecutors are expecting to see future trials focus on how the now-bankrupt FTX exchange was purportedly stealing billions of dollars from customers.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, this is reportedly \u2062the \u200bbillionaire\u2019s second time\u2062 having Manhattan \u2063prosecutors drop charges against him,\u2062 Despite accusations that he caused the collapse of FTX through\u2063 a multibillion-dollar fraud.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2062Manhattan prosecutors announced\u200b to Judge Lewis Kaplan late Wednesday\u2062 that the one count of making \u200dunlawful campaign \u2063contributions would be dropped, even though claims stated the FTX founder had \u200dillegally instructed associates to donate\u200d millions of dollars to political campaigns.<\/p>\n<p>Purportedly, over \u200c300 illegal donations were made in an effort to garner the favor\u2064 of\u2062 political candidates who could potentially\u200d pass laws favoring Bankman-Fried\u2019s company.<\/p>\n<p>It is suspected that he \u2064made nearly\u200d $40 million in political donations during the 2022 election cycle, according to campaign finance \u2063data gathered from the Federal Elections Commission (FEC).<\/p>\n<p>Publicly available records indicate that the bulk of political donations went primarily to support Democrat committees and candidates, with some money being donated\u2063 to bipartisan campaigns \u200bas well.<\/p>\n<p>The decision\u2064 to drop the charges against Bankman-Fried stemmed from the fact that both he and FTX resided in the Bahamas, and under the U.S.\u2019\u200d extradition treaty with the Bahamas, the island \u2063nation \u2062must consent to \u2064the charges before his extradition.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>A letter filed by the \u200cprosecutors stated, \u201cAccordingly, in keeping with its treaty obligations to The Bahamas, the Government does not intend \u200cto proceed to trial on the campaign contributions count.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Despite the charges being dropped,\u2063 he is still facing seven counts of defrauding or conspiring \u200cto defraud customers, investors, and lenders in what is being referred to as one of the \u201cbiggest financial\u2064 frauds in American history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The alleged crypto scammer\u2064 has\u200b been placed\u2064 on a $250 million \u2062bond and forced to remain at \u200bhis\u200b family\u2019s home in California as he\u200c awaits future trials.<\/p>\n<p>Several former FTX executives, including Caroline Ellison, Gary Wang, and Nishad Singh, \u200dhave all pleaded guilty to federal\u2063 charges.
