I think that is \u2064silly,\u201d Netanyahu said. \u201cWe have the most\u2063 activist \u200bjudicial court on the planet. It has \u200carrogated for itself\u200c power from the government, from \u200dthe executive and the legislative branches. \u2063We are trying to correct it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He explained that he was trying to bring balance back to the court, \u200cand to the Israeli government.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cI want to bring the pendulum to the middle, I don\u2019t want to bring \u2064the pendulum to the\u2064 other side,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Netanyahu said that the\u2064 process\u200d has been as \u201cslow as you can go\u201d when\u200b speaking with ABC, brushing aside the \u200dcriticism that he had rushed the legislation\u2064 through the Knesset.\u200d He said that \u2063that he had been\u2064 in office\u200b for seven months, \u200band had spent\u200b three months seeking the consensus, however the opposition leaders refused any compromises.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cI couldn\u2019t \u200bget anything from the opposition, therefore, decided \u200cto \u2062proceed with this minor correction \u200c\u2026 and I\u2063 am still trying to proceed \u2013 if not with a consensus with the opposition, then at\u2063 least with something that has broad consensus with the \u200cpublic,\u201d he\u2064 said. \u201cI am more optimistic now than I was before. Now\u2063 that they see we\u2062 are prepared to move without them, we have a majority, then maybe we will be\u200c able to move with them. I \u2062hope the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/israeli-supreme-court-to-hear-appeal-on-judicial-reform\/\" title=\"Israeli Supreme Court to Review Appeal on Judicial Reform\">opposition leaders show \u200cresponsibility<\/a> and come to the middle.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>On Wednesday, the supreme court of the nation\u200b announced that it\u2064 will\u200d hear appeals\u2062 against the new law on September 7<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>The court\u200c said that \u200cit would debate the new law on the\u2063 assigned date, however, it\u200b would not issue an injunction to block the law from going into effect before the set date. The court will hear arguments from seven different\u2064 groups that are\u200d seeking to have the law thrown out.<\/p>\n<p>Eliad Shraga, chairman of the Movement for Quality Government, announced the decision by the\u200c court and said that they will do \u201ceverything we can to \u2062stop the coup!\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cWe are ready,\u201d Eliad Shraga\u200d said in a statement. \u201cWe will appear in the Supreme Court to defend Israeli democracy, and we will do everything\u2062 we\u2062 can to stop the \u2064coup!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Adam Shinar, an associate\u200c professor at \u200bthe Harry Radzyner Law School at Reichman University, spoke with CNN and said that the decision by\u200d the \u2063court\u2063 will not \u200bdramatically affect the situation since the judges\u200c will be on break throughout August.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cAn injunction wouldn\u2019t be meaningless, but it wouldn\u2019t change much,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s unlikely this reasonableness clause will do a lot of damage \u200bbetween now and September that would be irreversible. You have to give all the parties, the\u2063 respondents, time to prepare their briefs. So you can\u2019t \u2064just say, let\u2019s\u200d discuss this \u2064next week. Because\u2062 obviously this is a very big issue, and they have to \u2064think hard\u2062 about \u200bit, and \u2062there are a lot of \u2062parties involved.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>On Tuesday, Netanyahu said that the court \u201cis not authorized\u201d to\u200d strike down the law. While speaking with the newspaper <em>Maariv<\/em>, sources from Likud, the political party of Netanyahu, said that such a move by the court would be a \u201cnuclear weapon that should never be used.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cIf the Supreme Court repeals a basic law, it will be the straw that breaks the camel\u2019s back, and it will generate even\u2062 more chaos,\u201d they said. \u201cIt would be an attempt to reverse the democratic decision made by millions of\u200d citizens and hand over to an unelected bureaucracy the \u2064power to oust a prime minister [\u2026] The Supreme Court is in a difficult situation\u200b and must tread\u2063 carefully.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Stay informed!
