Ted Cruz (R., Texas) that would have\u2064 blocked the Federal\u2062 Trade Commission from penalizing products produced\u2062 by Israelis living in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/state-department-rejects-bds-after-ben-jerrys-joins-anti-semitic-movement\/\" title=\"State Department Rejects BDS After Ben &#038; Jerry\u2019s Joins Anti-Semitic Movement\">contested territories<\/a>, including the West Bank, Gaza Strip, \u2064and \u200dGolan Heights.<\/p>\n<p>Cruz offered the measure as a stop-gap \u2062amendment \u200bon legislation granting the FTC broad new powers to\u200d issue fines\u2063 and other penalties to any online vendor that does not accurately disclose where its products are made. Supporters of the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement, including those in the Biden administration, have long worked to \u200cstrip the &#8220;Made in Israel&#8221; label from products manufactured\u200c in so-called settlements, which \u200cthey \u2063argue are not technically part of \u2064Israel.<\/p>\n<p>Cruz&#8217;s measure, <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/national-security\/cruz-moves-to-block-ftc-from-penalizing-israeli-companies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">first reported<\/a> by the <em>Washington Free Beacon<\/em> on Wednesday, said the FTC &#8220;may not discriminate against any community or entity\u2062 in Israeli territory,&#8221; including Jewish communities in contested areas.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If you needed any more proof that the Democrat Party is controlled by\u2064 the anti-Semitic &#8216;Squad,&#8217; today&#8217;s vote should end any debate,&#8221; Cruz told the <em>Free Beacon<\/em> following the vote. &#8220;All the \u2062Democrats on the Commerce Committee voted to give the\u2062 Biden administration\u2062 a new tool to boycott,\u2063 divest, and sanction Israel.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Cruz described the outcome as &#8220;absolutely\u200d appalling but unfortunately\u2063 predictable.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>Efforts to Target\u2062 Israel and Support BDS \u200cMovement<\/h3>\n<p>Congressional\u200b sources working \u2064on the \u2064matter said the amendment was specifically offered to stop the Biden administration from using its new powers to target Israel and bolster \u2062the BDS movement. \u2064The State Department <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/national-security\/biden-administration-defends-controversial-move-to-slash-israeli-research-funding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">last month<\/a> barred the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/better-than-expected-u-s-economy-added-638000-jobs-in-october-unemployment-dropped-to-6-9\/\" title=\"Better Than Expected: U.S. Economy Added 638,000 Jobs in October, Unemployment Dropped to 6.9%\">federal government<\/a> from collaborating on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-u-s-chip-ban-could-cripple-chinese-development-of-ai-and-supercomputers\/\" title=\"New U.S. Chip Ban Could Cripple Chinese Development of AI and Supercomputers\">scientific research projects<\/a> with Jewish \u2063Israelis living in contested areas, drawing \u2063accusations the administration is enabling the BDS movement.<\/p>\n<p>The Obama administration pursued similar policies, including a \u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/national-security\/obama-administration-orders-labeling-of-israeli-goods\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">contested 2016 order<\/a> \u200bdirecting the American &#8220;trade community&#8221; to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/senate-democrats-clear-the-way-for-boycott-of-israeli-products\/\" title=\"Senate Democrats pave the way for boycott of Israeli goods.\">stop labeling goods\u200c produced<\/a> in the West Bank as &#8220;made in Israel.&#8221; European countries have\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/doceo\/document\/P-9-2020-000918_EN.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">enacted<\/a> similar measures at the\u200b behest of the global BDS movement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Senate Democrats blocked Sen.
