Kristi Noem Passes On South Dakota Women\u2019s Sports Bill, Issues Executive Orders Instead\">college athletes<\/a> \u200cmaking money off of their\u2064 name, image, and likeness (NIL).<\/p>\n<p>NIL rules, which went \u2062into effect \u2064in July 2021, allow D1, D2, \u200dand D3 NCAA athletes to be compensated for\u2063 their name, image, or likeness being used for profit. Tuberville, along with Sen. Joe\u200d Manchin (D-WV), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/college-football\/news\/colorado-returning-to-big-12-league-presidents-approve-membership-as-buffaloes-consider-leaving-pac-12\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">introduced<\/span><\/a>  \u2064legislation Tuesday\u200c aimed at addressing some of the issues with\u200d NIL many people are concerned about. Tuberville, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/former-coach-sen-tuberville-explains-two-big-problems-with-nil-in-college-sports-and-how-his-bipartisan-bill-will-address-them\/\" title=\"Ex-Coach Sen. The NCAA argued that it was seeking to \u200cpreserve amateurism in college sports and that the rules \u201cwiden choices for consumers by distinguishing college sports from professional sports,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2021\/06\/21\/1000310043\/the-supreme-court-sides-with-ncaa-athletes-in-a-narrow-ruling\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">according<\/span><\/a>  to NPR.\u2063 The ruling was considered a huge win for college athletes, who had been denied nearly all possibilities of\u2062 making money while \u2062playing in college.<\/p>\n<p>The bipartisan bill, titled\u200c the \u201cProtecting Athletes, Schools, and Sports (PASS) Act of 2023,\u201d would set some\u200c requirements for NIL, including requiring agents and collectives\u2062 to register with a regulating body, setting \u2063up a website to publish anonymized NIL data, and requiring all\u200c NIL \u200ccontracts to be disclosed within 30 days, CBS Sports <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/college-football\/news\/sens-joe-manchin-tommy-tuberville-introduce-bill-addressing-nil-transfer-rules-in-college-athletics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Tuberville said he\u2064 was all for athletes making money, but he\u2019s\u200d concerned about some conferences and states having an advantage over others with the current NIL rules, especially when it \u2064comes to players transferring to another school, the other major problem the senator wants to address.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/episode\/senator-tuberville-s-nil-legislation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>CLICK HERE \u2064TO WATCH \u2018CRAIN\u200c &#038; CO.\u2019<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m all for money, and \u2063I\u2019m for\u200c them getting paid and transferred. But we want to go back to the \u2064old route,\u201d Tuberville said. \u201cAnd most of the coaches, administrators, and even some parents said, \u2018Let\u2019s go back to the \u200cold rule where you can transfer, but\u2062 you got to sit\u200d out a year and\u200b you still make money.\u2019 If\u200b the\u200b collectors want to pay you money, so be it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The bipartisan bill\u200d would require athletes to\u2064 complete three years \u200cof residency at a university \u200cbefore being eligible to transfer without penalty. Under the current rules, undergraduate athletes can transfer one time at any point and have immediate eligibility.<\/p>\n<p>While the senator admitted that he \u201cwouldn\u2019t wish\u201d federal government involvement\u2062 on anyone, he \u200bsaid\u2062 this bill will ultimately help the NCAA deal \u200cwith these NIL issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the end of the day, you\u2019re going to have to \u200cmake a decision. College sports have\u200c to make a decision,\u201d Tuberville said. \u201cDo you want that one or two states are \u2063destroying everything else that you\u2019ve got or \u2063you don\u2019t want them to go out on their own?\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sen.
