Cori Bush (D-MO), a member of the &#8220;Squad,&#8221; regarding recent campaign payments\u2063 made to her husband, according to documents obtained by the \u200dWashington Examiner.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Cori Bush\u2019s crime spree continues \u2014 now with convenient new\u200b descriptions in \u2064her FEC report,&#8221; \u2063said Dan Backer, a Republican campaign finance lawyer for the Committee to Defeat the President. &#8220;Bush has walked into a\u200d legal trap of her making. \u200dShe\u2019s either falsifying FEC\u200d reports that her husband illegally provided security services he\u2019s not licensed \u200bto provide, or he \u200bdid illegally provide them and\u200b she violated the law \u2063prohibiting paying for illegal things.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The complaint alleges that Bush violated\u2063 federal law\u2062 by directing $60,000 in campaign funds to her husband, Cortney Merritts,\u2064 for private\u2064 security\u200c in 2022. The \u2063super PAC Committee to Defeat the President and the watchdog Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust previously filed ethics complaints against\u200d Bush in March. Now, the anti-President Joe Biden super PAC has submitted a \u2063supplemental complaint to the Federal Election Commission, detailing an additional\u2063 $30,000 in\u2062 payments made to her \u200bhusband in 2023 for\u200d &#8220;security services&#8221; and &#8220;wage expenses.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In the second quarter of\u200c 2023, \u2063the Bush campaign&#8217;s filing revealed that Merritts received $17,500 between April and \u200cJune, following the $12,500 he received in\u2062 the \u2064first\u200d quarter. The purpose \u2063of some \u200bof the\u2062 recent payments being labeled as &#8220;wage expenses&#8221; is unclear, as the Bush\u200c campaign\u2062 did not respond to a \u2063request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Merritts has been on Bush&#8217;s campaign payroll\u2062 since January 2021, and the couple got married in February of\u2062 that year. While it \u200cis not illegal for lawmakers to use\u2063 campaign\u2062 funds to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/president-of-taxpayer-funded-antiracist-group-funneled-nearly-300k-to-husbands-law-firm\/\" title=\"President of Taxpayer-Funded Antiracist Group Funneled Nearly 0K to Husband\u2019s Law Firm\">pay family members<\/a>, it is generally frowned upon. The complaint alleges that the payments\u2064 to Merritts may not have been\u200b for actual &#8220;security \u200dservices&#8221; and that the campaign altered payment descriptions\u2063 to avoid\u2063 self-incrimination.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to\u200c Merritts, Bush has also paid Nathaniel Davis \u200dIII, a\u200d friend who claims to\u200b be a 109 trillion-year-old spiritual \u200dguru, for security services. The Bush campaign has also employed PEACE Security, a St.\u2063 Louis-based corporation specializing in &#8220;armed security&#8221; and \u200dsurveillance system sales and installation.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, Bush joined House Democrats in reintroducing the People\u2019s Response Act, which aims to allocate funds to social workers\u200b for\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-administration-splits-with-progressive-groups-sides-with-cops-in-supreme-court-case\/\" title=\"Biden Administration Splits with Progressive Groups, Sides with Cops in Supreme Court Case\">mental health emergencies<\/a> instead of relying on law \u200denforcement. \u200cDuring a\u2062 press conference for\u2063 the act, Black Lives Matter\u200c Global \u2064Network Foundation board \u200dmember Shalomyah Bowers referred to Bush as &#8220;brilliant.&#8221; However, Bowers was accused in a lawsuit last year of unlawfully taking over $10 million from donors \u2064of the \u200dBlack Lives\u200c Matter Global Network Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u200d Dan Backer, &#8220;Democrats\u2062 have gotten plain old lazy about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/squad-democrat-cori-bush-ethics-complaint-expands-over-new-payments-to-husband\/\" title=\"Democrat Cori Bush's ethics complaint grows due to additional payments to spouse.\">violating federal election law knowing<\/a> the FEC keeps covering\u2062 for them.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A spokeswoman for the FEC declined to comment on\u200b the complaint due to confidentiality requirements and \u200cagency policy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\">Click here<\/a> to read more from the Washington Examiner.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Conservative group expands ethics complaint against Rep.
