In other\u2063 words, look at an inquiry of impeachment as\u200b just\u200b one part of their strategic plan.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I just worry that \u2063the \u2064leadership of Mr. McCarthy is not in a sufficiently strong \u200cposition as [former House Speaker] \u2062Newt Gingrich was back when \u2062we went through this a generation ago to make \u200dsure \u2063that \u2063all these pieces are properly choreographed: the investigations, the appropriations process, an impeachment inquiry,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>The impeachment process is a political exercise, according \u2062to Barr, \u2063and not taking the politics into account would be irresponsible, particularly after\u2062 former President Donald Trump&#8217;s two House Democratic-led proceedings in 2019 and\u200b 2021.<\/p>\n<p>For Barr, a strategic\u200d impeachment inquiry could indicate to the public \u200bthat the allegations Republicans are \u2064making regarding Biden, \u2062specifically related to his son Hunter&#8217;s business \u200ddealings, \u200dare serious and that the party intends\u200c to address them seriously.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Clinton administration\u2064 was very good at claiming that the impeachment of Bill \u200cClinton\u2062 was all about \u2064sex,&#8221; Barr said. &#8220;Of course, it wasn&#8217;t. It was about perjury and \u200bobstruction.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think the Republican Party now \u200cruns the risk of doing the same thing if we&#8217;re not careful about keeping the inquiry of \u2062impeachment, if they go forward with one, based \u200bon substantive evidence, not pictures of Hunter Biden,&#8221; he added. &#8220;It&#8217;s important to keep \u200dit professional, straightforward on \u2064the evidence, and not be\u2064 drawn \u200doff on \u2064these\u2064 tangents that play \u2064into the \u200dDemocrat narrative.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>White House Response and Democratic\u200c National Committee Criticism<\/h3>\n<p>White House press\u2064 secretary Karine Jean-Pierre declined to discuss &#8220;hypotheticals&#8221; when asked about McCarthy telling Fox News House Republican investigations into \u200cBiden and his family are &#8220;rising to the level of impeachment \u2063inquiry.&#8221; Instead, Jean-Pierre underscored how Biden is concentrating on the &#8220;real priorities&#8221; that &#8220;American \u200bfamilies care about&#8221; and his bipartisan approach to governance.<\/p>\n<p>The Democratic National Committee was \u2063more assertive in two separate\u200d statements, criticizing McCarthy for his remarks and then \u2064for fundraising off of \u200bthem.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFundraising off this baseless impeachment inquiry threat is just the\u200d latest despicable reminder from Speaker-in-name-only Kevin McCarthy that this is all about\u2062 scoring\u200c political points to help Donald\u2063 Trump,&#8221; DNC spokesman Ammar\u200b Moussa said. &#8220;Every day, Kevin brings new shame to\u200d the House of Representatives, and this is\u200b just the latest stain on a so-called \u200cspeaker who has handed over\u200c the \u2063reins of\u200d the House majority to Donald Trump\u2064 and the extreme MAGA Republicans who are really in charge.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>Potential Impact on Biden and the Republican\u2063 Party<\/h3>\n<p>Republicans acknowledge an impeachment inquiry could amplify concerns concerning Biden and son Hunter&#8217;s\u200b business dealings, especially the younger Biden&#8217;s foreign business dealings, as\u2062 the president \u200chas an average 1 percentage point lead over Trump and a 3-point advantage over Gov.\u200d Ron DeSantis\u200b (R-FL) before next year&#8217;s election, per RealClearPolitics. The speaker last month referred Rep.
