Does\u2062 marriage \u2064have any real benefits \u2062or significance\u200c for men and women?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There are \u200cmany important events in a person\u2019s \u200clife and death: birth, Christian baptism, Jewish bar or \u200cbat mitzvahs, weddings, and funerals, among others. Is one of these major life events attended by more people \u200bthan the next? Dennis Prager, founder of PragerU, explains \u2063that if you look at the number of people at each event, more often than not, a wedding will be most attended.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There\u2019s a reason for that.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThere is simply no event in your \u2063life that has the meaning and is so widely felt by others as your \u2063wedding because it\u2019s deemed the most \u2063significant thing you will do, and even, perhaps, the happiest,\u201d Prager\u2062 says.<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Prager explains that this talk,\u2063 in\u200c which\u200d he makes the case for marriage, is the\u200b \u201csaddest\u201d one simply because \u2062in today\u2019s day and age, with society continually degrading\u2063 and diminishing the \u200drole \u200dand meaning of marriage, he has to give\u2063 it. Decades ago, Prager says he wouldn\u2019t have\u2063 thought about giving \u2064this message because \u2062most people didn\u2019t need it \u2063\u2014 \u2063they already knew.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In the United\u200c States \u2064today,\u200b roughly half of \u2063first marriages end in divorce, according to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/advisor\/legal\/divorce\/divorce-statistics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Forbes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. As for\u2064 second and third marriages, that fail rate is \u200beven higher, the \u2063outlet adds. This fact, \u200bPrager says, \u200cis what many unmarried people give as\u200d justification \u2064for their refusal to tie the\u200d knot.\u200b Others point \u200cto the severed marriages \u200bof their parents,\u2063 a point \u2063Prager says holds no merit, posing the question of whether\u2062 a \u2063person \u2064would quit driving if their parents got into a\u2062 car accident. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cYes, a lot\u2063 don\u2019t work out, \u2062that is correct,\u201d Prager admits. \u201cI\u2019ve never found \u200cthat to be a compelling argument against the institution.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<h4><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/episode\/coming-soon-episode-9-the-case-for-marriage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WATCH: Episode 9: The Case For Marriage<\/a><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">One way \u200bto avoid that \u2062dreadful divorce rate is to marry \u2063right the first time. But, Prager says,\u2063 divorce is sometimes merited and is never easy. Unlike Hollywood stars who \u200d\u201ctrade in their wives every\u200b few years,\u201d \u2063most \u2062people go to great lengths to make their marriages work and can still\u200d come up empty. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">But the rewards for \u2064long-lasting marriages are \u200cgreat for both \u2064men and women. Prager \u200cpoints out a study by a professor at \u2064the University of Virginia\u2063 which found that married men, on \u200daverage, earn\u200b 20% more than unmarried men.\u200d It also found that married men are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-case-for-marriage-prageru-masters-program-episode-9-now-available-on-dailywire\/\" title=\"Watch PragerU's Master's Program Episode 9 'The Case For Marriage' on DailyWire+ now!\">harder \u2063workers \u2014 typically working 400 hours<\/a> \u200cmore\u2062 a year than unmarried men \u2014 and more strategic. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cMarriage also\u200c transforms men\u2019s social worlds; \u200bthey spend less time with friends and more time with family; they also\u200d go\u2062 to bars less and to church more,\u201d Brad Wilcox, the author of the study, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/inspired-life\/wp\/2015\/04\/02\/dont-be-a-bachelor-why-married-men-work-harder-and-smarter-and-make-more-money\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">wrote<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  \u200bin\u200d a\u200b 2015 Washington Post article. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Marrying\u200d can also improve \u200dthe health of\u200b a man. A \u200cFramingham Offspring study <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.health.harvard.edu\/mens-health\/marriage-and-mens-health\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">found<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  that married men have a 46% lower\u200c rate of death from cardiovascular disease\u200b even \u2063after\u200b accounting for various risk factors, an astonishing statistic. A different study <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.health.harvard.edu\/mens-health\/marriage-and-mens-health\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">found<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  that marriage\u2064 has been linked to higher\u2063 survival \u2063rates following cancer diagnoses, and \u2063another\u2064 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cmu.edu\/dietrich\/news\/news-stories\/2017\/february\/why-married-people-are-healthy.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">discovered<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  that \u2063married people have lower\u200d levels of\u200b stress. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201c[M]arried men have a \u2062lower risk of depression and a higher likelihood of satisfaction with life in retirement than\u2062 their unmarried peers,\u201d\u200d a 2019 Harvard Health article, cited by Prager, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.health.harvard.edu\/mens-health\/marriage-and-mens-health\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">said<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. \u201cBeing married has also been linked to better cognitive function, a reduced risk of Alzheimer\u2019s disease, improved blood sugar levels, and better \u200doutcomes for\u200d hospitalized patients.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Women, too, receive numerous benefits from marriage. Prager points to studies showing that married women have better physical\u2063 and emotional health, resulting in lower levels of depression and suicide attempts than unmarried women \u2014 \u2063and even \u201ccohabiting\u201d women, according to\u2064 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/hp\/front\/being-unmarried-makes-a-woman-a-higher-suicide-risk-6678947.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">one\u2062 study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. They are \u2063also not as likely\u2063 to\u2062 be physically or \u2062emotionally \u200dabused, Prager says. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Beyond\u2063 the physical, mental,\u200d and social \u200dbenefits of marriage, \u200cbeing devoted to a spouse also\u200d forces men\u200c and women to do something extremely important: \u2064grow up. This is actually one of the contributors to \u200bthe declining marriage rate in the country, \u2064because a \u2064lot of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/disney-fires-actress-gina-carano-after-post-comparing-hating-someone-over-politics-to-nazi-germany\/\" title=\"Disney Fires Actress Gina Carano After Post Comparing Hating Someone Over Politics To Nazi Germany\">people today don\u2019<\/a>t\u200c want to grow up, according to Prager. He says it\u2019s easy for \u200chim to spot a\u200d married man or woman by how they\u2062 conduct themselves. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWhen I meet a man who is married, he radiates a maturity and even \u2063a masculinity that I rarely find in men who are single for a long period of time,\u201d Prager explains. \u201cWith women, likewise, I\u2064 identify a maturity \u2062and a wisdom and a stability \u2064that I don\u2019t\u2062 see in \u200bwomen who \u200dhave never been married.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Prager says that Americans should strive \u2063to be a member of this institution, not only because it \u2063contributes\u2063 to society in beneficial ways, but \u2064also because it\u2019s good for the couple. \u2062Don\u2019t \u2063wait too\u200c long\u200b to \u200dget married, either, Prager advises. Instead, get serious about\u2064 marriage\u2063 when a \u201cwonderful person\u201d\u2064 comes \u200dalong, instead \u200bof using the\u2063 often-cited excuse of \u200cwaiting for \u201cfinancial\u2063 stability.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ultimately, Prager\u2063 says, a person \u2062will become better because of marriage.
