If approved,\u200c the deal would likely have meant no jail time for the president\u2019s son. The deal has been largely critiqued \u200cby Republicans, who say\u2064 that the deal is too lenient on him and that he should be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hunter-biden-plea-deal-derails-after-questions-about-scope-of-deal-immunity\/\" title=\"Hunter Biden's plea deal falls apart due to concerns about the deal's extent and immunity.\">facing \u200dharsher punishment<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Federal\u200c District Court\u2062 Judge Maryellen Noreika put the plea deal on hold leading Hunter to plead not guilty while the judge \u200bgives both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-ag-barr-authorizes-federal-prosecutors-to-pursue-substantial-allegations-of-voting-irregularities-before-2020-election-is-certified\/\" title=\"BREAKING: AG Barr Authorizes Federal Prosecutors to Pursue \"Substantial Allegations\" of Voting Irregularities Before 2020 Election is Certified\">federal prosecutors<\/a> and Hunter\u2019s lawyers time to further hash \u200dout details \u200bof\u2062 a plea \u200ddeal.<\/p>\n<p>Hunter appeared before\u200c Noreika in\u2063 Delaware on Wednesday\u200d where \u2063he was expected to plead guilty, but the deal fell \u2064apart as the judge asked Hunter\u2019s lawyers and \u200bfederal prosecutors for further details on an investigation into Hunter and what \u200dimmunity he\u2062 would be granted.<\/p>\n<p>According to multiple reports, Noreika pressed Hunter\u2019s lawyers and federal prosecutors \u2062on the extent of immunity being\u200d offered to \u2064Hunter in the\u2062 deal, including whether it \u200cwould exempt \u2063him from charges related to\u200d the Foreign \u2062Agent Registration \u2063Act.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI \u200bthink having you guys talk more makes sense,\u201d the judge\u200d said before\u200d calling a recess for the lawyers to negotiate.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>There also appeared to be disagreement\u200d between federal prosecutors \u2062and\u2062 Hunter\u2019s lawyers about whether there was still an investigation into\u200b him \u2062or not. Federal \u200dprosecutor Leo\u2062 Wise said \u201cThere\u2019s no deal\u201d if the understanding was that the investigation was over.<\/p>\n<p>After the recess, \u2062the plea\u200b deal \u200cwas reportedly \u200bback on after negotiations between \u200dthe\u200c two \u2062lawyers. The deal \u200creached\u2063 between the lawyers \u2064appeared to give Hunter future immunity for actions\u200b related\u2062 to tax\u2063 offenses, gun possession, and drug use from 2014-2019. However, the judge did not accept the deal, saying \u2062there\u200c could be constitutional issues at play.<\/p>\n<p>Both parties will later return to court to\u200b make their case about why the \u2063judge should \u2064accept the deal.<\/p>\n<p>Some commentators \u2063questioned \u200cthe immunity aspect of the plea deal, including Republican Missouri attorney general \u2062candidate Will \u2064Scharf.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHunter wants to walk away from \u2062a decade of \u200dcriminal activity, including potential\u2062 FARA violations and other \u200cserious\u2062 criminal charges, with a slap\u200c on the wrist. It\u2019s a scandal that Biden\u2019s DOJ was willing to agree to this kind of a deal.
