The bill comes after the Supreme Court ended <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/medical-professor-warned-colleagues-that-schools-racial-preferences-were-illegal-and-he-was-removed-from-directorship-now-hes-suing\/\" title=\"Medical Professor Warned Colleagues That School\u2019s Racial Preferences Were Illegal And He Was Removed From Directorship. The practice had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/betsy-mccaughey-the-lefts-lies-about-the-supreme-court\/\" title=\"Betsy McCaughey: The Left's Lies About the Supreme Court\">allowed race<\/a> to be one of the\u200b considered factors when accepting \u2064or rejecting students.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cAll \u200cstudents deserve an equitable chance to be admitted to institutions \u2062of higher education, but many are\u200c overlooked in the\u200c admissions process due to the historically elitist and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/anti-asian-violence-how-politicians-are-ignoring-data-to-divide-us-by-race\/\" title=\"Anti-Asian Violence: How Politicians Are Ignoring Data To Divide Us By Race\">racist legacy<\/a> \u200cand donor admissions practices at colleges across\u2063 the country,\u201d Bowman said in a statement. &#8220;Our\u200c democracy depends on equity in education from preschool to \u2064college to vocational school and beyond, so that every young person in\u200c our country has access to the tools they need to unlock their brilliance and reach their full potential.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The \u200clegislation seeks to\u200b change the Higher Education \u2064Act of 1965 by\u200b cutting federal funding to schools that still consider family members&#8217; attendance to the school, or a\u200d parent&#8217;s\u2064 donation to the school, as part of their vetting and approval\u2064 process.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThough the\u2063 Supreme Court gutted race-conscious college admissions, make no mistake, affirmative action is still alive and well for children of alumni and major donors, and taxpayers shouldn\u2019t\u2063 be funding it,&#8221; Merkley said. \u201cChildren of donors and alumni may \u2063be excellent students\u200b and well-qualified, \u2063but they are the last people who \u200bshould get an additional leg\u2063 up in the complicated and competitive college admissions process.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Some elite schools, such as the\u2063 Massachusetts\u2062 Institute of Technology, \u200chave already eliminated the practice. But several Ivy \u200dLeague colleges, including Harvard and Yale, have \u200dnot.<\/p>\n<p>It is unclear whether the legislation will get much bipartisan support,\u2063 but Sen.
