Her family and friends are distraught\u200c and have asked for privacy at this difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The famed Dublin vocalist recorded ten studio albums, and her song \u201cNothing Compares \u20632 U\u201d was crowned the Billboard Music Awards\u2019 number one world hit in 1990.<\/p>\n<p>Her rendition of the ballad, composed \u200bby\u200b artist\u2064 Prince, topped global charts and won her\u200c three Grammy nominations.<\/p>\n<p>The\u2062 song\u2019s music video, which\u200b was directed by John Maybury, was as renowned as O\u2019Connor\u2019s singing performance, consisting largely of a close-up of her face while she sang the lyrics \u2063in an emotional performance.<\/p>\n<p>Due to the song\u2019s success, O\u2019Connor was also chosen as Rolling\u200d Stone magazine\u2019s artist of the year\u2063 in 1991. She had received the inaugural Classic Irish Album prize at\u2064 the RT\u00c9 Choice Music\u200c Awards earlier this year.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re very welcome in Ireland. I love you very much and I \u2062wish you happiness,\u201d she\u200c said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>O\u2019Connor\u2019s three children have vowed \u2063to carry on her name.
