One that took hold of me in my liberal past was the concept of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/i-want-you-back-restores-sanity-romance-to-rom-coms\/\" title=\"\u201cI Want You Back\u201d Restores Sanity, Romance to Rom-Coms\">modern love<\/a>. I finally woke up to the fact that \u201cmodern love\u201d is a lie. In reality, no one is happy in this type of\u2062 relationship. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The New York Times publishes a weekly column\u2062 titled Modern Love, written by readers who share their \u201cmodern love\u201d stories about how they are bucking traditional love \u2014 because they\u2019re <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">doing love differently<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. A few <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/more-spanish-radio-stars-quit-ahead-of-soros-takeover\/\" title=\"More Spanish Radio Stars Quit Ahead of Soros Takeover\">recent headlines include<\/a> <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/05\/19\/style\/modern-love-affair-therapy-spectacular-betrayal.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">My Spectacular Betrayal<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/05\/16\/style\/tiny-modern-love-stories-deeply-in-love-with-a-polyamorous-woman.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Deeply in Love With\u2064 a Polyamorous Woman<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/07\/07\/style\/modern-love-kissing-a-fellow-janitor-amid-the-trash.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Kissing a Fellow Janitor Amid the Trash<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. You\u2064 get the idea. They are all written\u200d as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/and-they-did-not-live-happily-ever-after-a-modern-love-story\/\" title=\"No Happy Ending: A Contemporary Love Tale\">glamorized aspirational tales<\/a> with happy endings. The implied message is that modern love is freeing: \u201cWhy have the natural traditional marriage \u2064when you can have something that is different!\u201d But what these \u2064articles are actually\u2064 promoting is narcissism: \u201cI can\u2062 live my life as I want to! I should be able\u200b to give into my every impulse.\u201d Yet readers \u2063never get an update as to how\u2062 this modern\u200d love worked out. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">How does that work out in\u200c the long run?<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Bill de Blasio and Chirlane McCray\u2019s marriage answers that question. Bill \u200cde Blasio was a one-time\u2064 presidential contender no one took\u2064 seriously, and before that, he was busy ruining New York City as the mayor.\u2063 McCray and de Blasio are a biracial\u200c couple, \u2064a factor he constantly put in everyone\u2019s face and one that obviously helped him become mayor \u2014 because his policies certainly did <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">not<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. But what\u2019s more interesting is that McCray is a lesbian \u2014 was a lesbian. Is a lesbian. Is,\u2062 was, who knows? But \u2064it did not matter\u200d to de Blasio. \u200bHe married her anyway. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">So how\u2064 did \u2062that work out? Well, according\u2064 to a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/07\/05\/nyregion\/de-blasio-marriage-chirlane-mccray.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">New York Times piece<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  \u2062about them, they\u2019re splitting. But they are not getting divorced.\u2063 After all, the only way to build on your modern love failure is to add yet another layer of modern love to it. Now\u2064 you can apparently \u200csplit, continue living \u200ctogether without getting divorced, and\u2063 date other people. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">That<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  \u200c is what they are doing. And\u2063 the \u2062article glamorizes not only their relationship but their split too. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Addressing the Strange\u200c Dynamic of Modern Love<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What this article should have done is addressed how strange this dynamic is. It should have delved deeper into why they are not leaving\u200d their home and will continue living together. And it certainly should \u200dhave mentioned their children \u2014 \u200cthe children who will come \u200bhome with the full \u200dunderstanding that their parents are living together while also seeing other \u2064people. Their daughter was arrested at a BLM protest in 2020, so perhaps they could have explained if they think part of the reason she seems to be suffering is an effect of their unhealthy, modern love relationship. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">No one should aspire to this \u2064kind of relationship. So-called modern love is \u200cthe reason so many women and men are unhappy in their relationships \u2014 yet \u2062then cannot come up with reasons \u2064as to why\u200d their relationships are failing. They don\u2019t understand because they don\u2019t even know what it means to come \u2063together\u200c in a marriage. Marriages are not meant to be\u2062 experimental. Partners are to be chosen \u200ccarefully\u2063 and vows are to be taken seriously. These kinds of arrangements do not work out.
