The deal has been largely critiqued by Republicans, who say that the \u200cdeal is too lenient on him and that he should be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hunter-biden-plea-deal-almost-derails-after-questions-about-scope-of-deal-immunity\/\" title=\"Hunter Biden's plea deal nearly derails due to concerns about the deal's extent and immunity.\">facing harsher punishment<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Hunter\u200b appeared before Federal District Court Judge Maryellen Noreika in Delaware on Wednesday where he was expected to \u200dplead guilty, but the deal appeared to\u2063 almost fall apart as \u200dthe judge asked Hunter\u2019s lawyers and\u200d federal prosecutors for further details on an investigation into Hunter and what immunity he \u2063would be granted.<\/p>\n<p>According to multiple\u200c reports, Noreika pressed Hunter\u2019s \u200dlawyers \u2062and federal prosecutors on \u200bthe\u2062 extent \u200dof immunity being offered to Hunter in the deal, including\u200d whether it would exempt him from charges related to the Foreign Agent \u200cRegistration Act.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI think having you guys talk more\u200b makes sense,\u201d the judge said before calling a recess for the lawyers to negotiate.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>There also appeared to be disagreement between federal prosecutors and Hunter\u2019s lawyers about whether there was still an investigation into him\u2064 or\u2063 not. Federal prosecutor Leo Wise said \u201cThere\u2019s no deal\u201d if the understanding was that the\u200d investigation was over.<\/p>\n<p>After the recess, the plea deal\u200c was \u200breportedly back on \u200bafter negotiations between the two lawyers. Proceedings\u2063 were ongoing and could\u2064 still be subject to change, but it appeared that Hunter would be given future immunity for actions related to tax offenses, gun possession, and drug use from 2014-2019.<\/p>\n<p>Some commentators questioned the immunity aspect\u2063 of the \u2062plea deal, including Republican Missouri attorney general candidate Will Scharf.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHunter\u200b wants to walk away from a decade of criminal activity, including potential FARA violations and other serious criminal charges, with a slap on \u200cthe wrist.
