Jason\u200d Smith\u2064 of Missouri, chair of the House Ways and Means Committee, filed a brief on Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Wilmington, Delaware. The judge is set to decide\u2062 on Wednesday whether to accept the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hours-after-mass-shooting-philly-da-downplayed-crime-spike-to-liberal-celebrities\/\" title=\"Hours After Mass Shooting, Philly DA Downplayed Crime Spike to Liberal Celebrities\">negotiated plea deal<\/a>, as reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/07\/25\/us\/politics\/republicans-hunter-biden-plea.html\">The New York Times.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The plea deal, if accepted, would resolve the pending tax and \u2064gun charges against Hunter Biden without any jail time.<\/p>\n<p>Hunter Biden&#8217;s lawyers attempted to \u200bprevent the filing of the brief, according to\u200c the Times. They\u200c argued that it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-republicans-make-last-minute-play-to-block-hunter-bidens-tainted-plea-deal\/\" title=\"House Republicans attempt to prevent Hunter Biden's plea deal due to alleged corruption.\">contained confidential taxpayer information<\/a> and should\u2062 be \u200dsealed. Judge Maryellen Noreika agreed with this point.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;The situation here\u200d is not \u2062that the Justice Department\u200d exercised charging or plea negotiation discretion, but\u200b the presence of credible allegations that the investigation,\u2062 charging decisions and plea negotiations were tainted by improper conduct at various levels of the government,&#8221;<\/p>\n<footer>Theodore A. He emphasized the need for transparency and fairness in evaluating\u2064 the plea agreement.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Smith&#8217;s\u200d filing also highlighted allegations of interference, delays, and roadblocks in the investigation. It pointed out \u200bthat these actions had hindered the progress of \u200bthe case and potentially \u2062led to the expiration of the statute of limitations\u200b on key claims.<\/p>\n<p>The filing concluded by stating that the list of irregularities presented was\u200b just \u200dthe tip of the iceberg, with numerous other examples of interference and\u200d delays\u2063 provided by \u2064the whistleblowers.<\/p>\n<p>Christopher Clark, a lawyer for Hunter Biden, dismissed the filing \u200cas \u200b&#8221;baseless and\u200c abusive,&#8221; \u2064according to the Times.<\/p>\n<p>After \u2064the filing,\u200d Judge Noreika threatened Hunter Biden&#8217;s attorneys with punishment for attempting to seal the brief and for a staff member misrepresenting herself.
