Version: 4.0.47--><p>Months after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/jim-jordan-subpoenas-big-tech-executives-in-collusion-investigation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">subpoenaing<\/a> Meta CEO <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/mark-zuckerberg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mark Zuckerberg<\/a> as part of a\u200d censorship investigation, a GOP-led House panel announced on Tuesday a plan\u200b to move forward with trying to punish the Big Tech executive for \u200ballegedly not complying with its demands.<\/p>\n<p>The Judiciary Committee, led by Chairman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/jim-jordan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jim Jordan<\/a> (R-OH), said \u2063a markup session is <a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/committee-activity\/markups\/markup-report-recommending-us-house-cite-mark-zuckerberg-contempt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">scheduled<\/a> for Thursday afternoon during which members will \u200dconsider a report recommending the full House chamber vote on citing \u200dZuckerberg for contempt of Congress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Committee\u2019s subpoena to \u2063Meta, issued \u200con February 15, 2023, \u200drequires, among other things, that \u2062Meta produce material \u2062concerning its engagement with the Executive Branch and Meta\u2019s decisions and policies regarding content moderation,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/sites\/evo-subsites\/republicans-judiciary.house.gov\/files\/evo-media-document\/zuckerberg-contempt-report_ans.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">panel\u2019s report said<\/a>. \u201cAlthough directly responsive to the Committee\u2019s subpoena, Meta\u2063 has failed to produce nearly all of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-committee-moves-forward-with-plan-to-hold-meta-ceo-mark-zuckerberg-in-contempt\/\" title=\"House Committee Proceeds With Contempt Charges Against Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.\">relevant documents internal<\/a> to the company.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a \u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/andymstone\/status\/1683904883194200067\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> posted to social media, Meta claimed to have operated in \u201cgood faith\u201d to comply with \u201csweeping requests\u201d from the committee for months, even before the subpoena\u200d was issued in\u2062 February.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo date we have delivered over 53,000 pages\u2063 of documents \u2014 both internal and external \u2014 and have made \u2063nearly a dozen current and former\u2062 employees available to discuss external and internal \u200dmatters, including some scheduled this very week,\u201d Meta added. \u201cMeta will\u200d continue to comply,\u200d as we have thus far, with good faith requests from the committee.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In \u200daddition to Zuckerberg, top executives from Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Apple were \u2064also subpoenaed in February \u200dwith a deadline set toward the end of March. At the time, \u2063Jordan <a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/sites\/evo-subsites\/republicans-judiciary.house.gov\/files\/evo-media-document\/2023-02-15-jdj-to-jassy-amazon.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">touted how Twitter<\/a> \u201cset a\u200c benchmark for how transparent Big Tech companies can be about interactions with government \u2063over \u200dcensorship\u201d following the\u2062 release\u200c of The\u2064 Twitter Files.<\/p>\n<p>Meta,\u200b the parent company of Facebook that recently \u2063introduced its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/meta-to-release-new-app-threads-to-compete-with-twitter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter-competitor app<\/a> called Threads, had\u2063 as of Tuesday \u201cproduced only documents between Meta \u2062and external entities and a \u2064small subset of \u2063relevant internal documents\u201d to the House Judiciary Committee, the panel\u2019s report said.<\/p>\n<p><b data-stringify-type=\"bold\"><\/b><\/p>\n<p>The\u200d committee \u201chas a particular need for Meta\u2019s internal\u2063 documents, which would shed light on how\u2063 Meta understood, \u200devaluated, and responded to the\u200c Executive Branch\u2019s requests or directives to censor content, as well as Meta\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/listen-elon-musk-presses-robinhood-ceo-about-gamestop-fiasco-restricted-trading\/\" title=\"LISTEN: Elon Musk Presses Robinhood CEO About GameStop Fiasco, Restricted Trading\">decision-making process<\/a> to censor viewpoints in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cathy-mcmorris-rodgers-and-seth-dillon-how-to-end-big-tech-censorship-of-free-speech\/\" title=\"Cathy McMorris Rodgers and Seth Dillon: How to End Big Tech Censorship of Free Speech\">modern town square<\/a>,\u201d the panel added.<\/p>\n<p>While alluding to an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/biden-administration-scores-victory-against-order-blocking-contact-with-social-media-companies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ongoing lawsuit<\/a> over alleged collusion between the federal government and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fbi-allegedly-informed-twitter-the-hunter-biden-laptop-was-real-on-key-date\/\" title=\"FBI reportedly told Twitter about authenticity of Hunter Biden laptop on crucial day.\">social \u2063media companies<\/a> to censor speech in violation of the First Amendment, the panel\u2019s report indicated Congress may\u2062 develop legislation to enact \u201cnew \u200dstatutory limits on the Executive Branch\u2019s \u200cability to work with technology companies to restrict the circulation of content and deplatform users.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Among the recommendations made in the report, beyond holding Zuckerberg in contempt\u200b of Congress, is to have the House speaker refer the matter to the U.S. attorney in Washington, D.C., and \u201cotherwise\u2064 take all appropriate \u2064action\u200b to\u2064 enforce the subpoena.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Months after subpoenaing Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg for a censorship investigation, a GOP-led House panel plans to punish the Big Tech executive for alleged non-compliance.
