BROWN\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>OAN\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oann.com\/tag\/brooke-mallory\">Brooke Mallory<\/a><\/h2>\n<h3>3:34 PM \u2013 Tuesday,\u2063 July 25, 2023<\/h3>\n<p>On Tuesday, UPS and the Teamsters union, which represents approximately 340,000 workers at the package carrier, announced a tentative labor agreement that includes raises for both full-time and part-time employees avoiding a potential strike that was scheduled to begin next week.<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1\" style=\"min-width: 320px; min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>It was the latest in \u2062a series of labor agreements in which workers,\u200c ranging from\u200d pilots to aerospace production workers, campaigned for in order to secure better pay.<\/p>\n<p>According to Teamsters General President Sean O\u2019Brien, the reached agreement is worth $30 billion.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThe union went into this fight committed to winning\u200d for our members. We demanded the best\u200d contract in the history \u200cof\u2063 UPS, and we got it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Existing part-time workers would be\u2062 paid at least $21 an hour if the new \u2063contract is approved \u2064by workers, \u200baccording to the union. Full-time employees will earn an hourly wage of $49 on average. Current employees will earn $2.75 more per hour this year and $7.50 \u200cmore per hour over the course of the five-year deal.<\/p>\n<p>According to a\u200d contract outline obtained by the Teamsters, the agreement would also abolish obligatory overtime on drivers\u2019 days off.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cTogether we reached a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-celebrates-ups-labor-agreement-a-testament-to-collective-bargaining\/\" title=\"Biden hails UPS labor deal as a 'testament' to collective bargaining.\">win-win-win agreement<\/a> on\u2064 the issues that are important to Teamsters leadership, our employees and to UPS and our customers,\u201d said UPS CEO Carol Tom\u00e9. \u201cThis agreement continues to reward UPS\u2019s full- and part-time employees\u2064 with industry-leading pay and benefits while\u2064 retaining the flexibility we need to stay \u2063competitive, serve our customers and keep our business strong.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Workers must still approve the tentative agreement. UPS employees represented by Teamsters decided to allow a strike beyond July 31<sup>st<\/sup> if the two parties could not reach an agreement. The strike could reportedly have repercussions in areas like retail that rely heavily on the package service giant.<\/p>\n<p>The\u2062 tentative deal was applauded by the National Retail Federation.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cUPS\u2064 is a major partner of the retail industry, and we are grateful it came to an agreement with the \u2064Teamsters without disruption to the marketplace,\u201d said Matthew Shay, CEO of the trade group. \u201cRetailers rely on stability within their supply chains, and this \u200cagreement will bring long-term stability, as well as assurance to the millions of businesses and employees who rely on smooth and efficient last-mile delivery.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Despite early agreements, several recent labor \u2064discussions have not resulted in new contracts.
