Version: 4.0.47--><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Following pressure from\u2063 Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA) \u2014 \u2064including \u2064the threat \u200dof a $1.5 million fine and legal\u2062 \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oag.ca.gov\/news\/press-releases\/attorney-general-bonta-and-governor-newsom-demand-answers-temecula-school-board\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">repercussions<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201d \u2014 a Southern\u2062 California school district has \u200dreversed course to adopt\u200c a \u200cstate-approved curriculum the school board initially rejected.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Three \u200cnewly-elected board members for the Temecula \u2064Valley Unified School District \u2014<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Joseph Komrosky, <\/span>Jen Wiersma, and Danny Gonzalez \u2064\u2014 \u2062have been repeatedly personally targeted \u2062by \u200bNewsom since \u2062they voted to delay the \u2064deployment of a curriculum for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/incoming-nyc-schools-chancellor-backs-claim-that-america-was-built-on-lies\/\" title=\"Incoming NYC Schools Chancellor Backs Claim That America Was \u2018Built On Lies\u2019\">elementary school students<\/a> backed by the governor.<\/p>\n<p>The governor has likened the trio to <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cdemagogues who whitewash history, censor books, \u2063and perpetuate prejudice,\u201d bragged about a \u2063civil rights\u200b investigation <a href=\"https:\/\/oag.ca.gov\/news\/press-releases\/attorney-general-bonta-and-governor-newsom-demand-answers-temecula-school-board\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">launched<\/a> by the state\u2019s attorney general back in June\u2062 into \u2064why the\u200c board rejected the curriculum, and vowed to send the district a \u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/2023\/07\/20\/gov-gavin-newsom-sending-textbooks-and-possibly-a-1-5-million-fine-to-temecula\/amp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bill for $1.6 million<\/a>, \u2064along\u200b with \u200ba $1.5\u2062 million fine for initially refusing the textbooks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe governor\u2019s statements are outrageous, \u200cand it has been \u2062a surreal thing for me to \u200dlive through this with the amount\u200d of threats and intimidation\u2063 and<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">bullying that\u2019s gone \u200don, whether it\u2019s monetarily \u200cthrough \u2063a \u2064fine or a\u200c lawsuit \u200dand the name\u2063 calling, it\u2019s egregious,\u201d Wiersma told The \u200bDaily Wire \u2064in a phone interview. \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There\u2019s\u2064 no other way \u200caround it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">A\u2063 school board in Temecula decided\u2063 to \u2064reject a textbook because it mentioned Harvey Milk.<\/p>\n<p>CA is stepping in.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re going to purchase the book for these \u200cstudents\u2014the same one that \u2062hundreds of thousands\u200d of kids are already using.<\/p>\n<p>If these <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/newsom-fines-school-district-1-5m-for-rejecting-curriculum-mentioning-harvey-milk\/\" title=\"Newsom fines school district .5M for refusing Harvey Milk curriculum.\">extremist school board members won\u2019<\/a>t do\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/r2iirL8b5v\">pic.twitter.com\/r2iirL8b5v<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Gavin\u2062 Newsom (@GavinNewsom) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GavinNewsom\/status\/1679579172690329601?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July\u200d 13, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The board voted 3-2 \u200dto delay the deployment of the curriculum last Tuesday,\u2062 largely due \u200cto parents <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">complaining\u200c that some of the content \u200bwas too sexualized for\u2064 elementary school students. Specifically, some <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">parents took issue with lessons\u2064 about Harvey\u2064 Milk, the first openly gay man to be elected to public\u2062 office in California. Notably, Milk\u200d had\u200c a series of sexual relationships \u200cwith young \u200dboys when he was in his 30s and was accused of rape.\u200d Other LGBT content parents felt\u200c was age-inappropriate included the mention of the\u200c Gay Liberation Front, which parents connected to NAMBLA, \u200ba pedophilia advocacy group. They also found some content ideological or politically biased.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">One Temecula parent, who is also a U.S. Marine \u200bveteran, voiced outrage at Newsom during the contentious nine<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/its-egregious-school-board-members-battle-gov-newsoms-personal-attacks-threats-of-fines-legal-action\/\" title=\"School board members clash with Gov. Girls \u200dcannot be\u2064 boys. Men cannot get pregnant,\u201d the parent said.\u200c \u201cYou\u2019re justifying the sexual perversion of young children. Gov. \u200cGavin Newsom, \u200dPharaoh of California, wants to spend 1.6 million dollars on \u200ctextbooks in Temecula\u2064 to facilitate the deviant sexual\u200d behavior of Harvey Milk. Why? Because children must learn\u200c gay pride. \u2026 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">That\u2019s not the \u200bresponsibility of the woke pharaoh \u2062of California, parental rights come from God, not \u2064man.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">But due to mounting legal pressures, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">an emergency board meeting\u2062 was\u2062 called \u2063on short notice Friday, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and the\u200b four out of\u200b the five board \u2064members who\u2062 were able \u2063to attend the meeting\u200d eventually voted unanimously to approve the curriculum for \u2063the coming\u2064 school year. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Notably,\u200d t<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">he most controversial material, a chapter \u2062for fourth graders\u200d on Harvey Milk and other LGBT-related\u200b content, has been pushed \u200bto the end of the school year\u2062 and will likely be completely removed and replaced.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Numerous \u2062school board members\u200d have <a href=\"https:\/\/edsource.org\/2023\/temecula-valley-unified-reverses-course-and-adopts-controversial-social-studies-curriculum\/694593\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> \u2063they needed to \u2062quickly green-light the state-backed \u200cbooks, or the district would be open to\u2063 legal action. Specifically, they worried the district \u200dwould be in violation of California\u2019s Williams Act,\u200b which mandates students have\u2064 equal access to instructional \u200dmaterials and quality teachers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Komrosky, the Temecula school board president, talked about \u2064the<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  pressures from the state when discussing \u200bthe \u2063recent curriculum\u2064 approval. \u200dNewsom, Attorney\u200d General Rob\u2062 Bonta, and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">State Superintendent\u200c of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond are \u201csalivating\u201d\u200b for the\u200b board to make \u2062a \u2064mistake,\u200d Komrosky said, adding that he acted to \u201cavoid litigation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe story is that\u2062 we did a \u200c180 \u2063flip\u200c and that\u2019s not the case,\u201d Wiersma told The Daily Wire. \u201cWhat we decided to do is take in the curriculum\u2063 and basically rewrite a fourth grade module and\u200d we\u2019ll include \u200bLGBT people \u2014 because you need to, as\u200c per the FAIR act \u2014 but it will move \u2063into a realm that is less controversial. We\u2019re gonna work\u200b the best we \u2062can \u2062to ask for\u2062 modifications \u200dand\u200c work to provide the\u2063 community with a standard that they\u2019re more \u2064comfortable with.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Newsom continued to attack the \u2062three\u200c new\u2062 board \u200dmembers despite their\u200c vote Friday, charging that this latest v<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ote\u2064 exposed their \u201ctrue motives\u201d \u2063and\u200d this battle was \u201cnever about parental rights,\u201d but \u200d\u201cextremists\u2019 desire\u2063 to control information and \u2063censor the materials\u200b used to \u2062teach\u200d our \u2062children.\u201d The Democrat also claimed that because of the board members\u2019 \u201cantics,\u201d \u2063 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cTemecula has a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fbi-announces-investigation-into-andrew-brown-jr-shooting\/\" title=\"FBI Announces Investigation Into Andrew Brown Jr. Shooting\">civil rights investigation<\/a> to answer for.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Wiersma said that, \u2064legally, this curriculum can\u2062 \u201cevolve,\u201d and she will continue to make sure parents\u2019 voices are heard\u200d and\u200d reflected in \u2063the content their \u200cchildren are\u2064 exposed to.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThis is a\u200c call out to \u200dparents to keep moving, keep getting involved, get on committees,\u201d she said. \u201cKeep writing letters to your school boards, keep showing\u200d up, because you\u2064 will make a difference even though people \u2064like \u2062Governor Newsom may wanna shut you down.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>As \u2063for Newsom, Wiersma said the\u200c American people should take a second\u200b look at his\u2063 actions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf \u2062you\u2019re looking at \u2062someone who wants to run \u200cfor the President of the \u2064United States, people better step \u200bback and question this, because local authority is the\u2064 way our founders set up this \u2064country,\u201d the board trustee said. \u201cIndividual communities \u200dshould be able to speak into things without\u2064 a governor\u200c tossing out the power of his office and applying\u2064 this kind \u2062of pressure to \u200dmoms and dads and\u2062 people who step up to run for the\u200b school board.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Under pressure from Governor Gavin Newsom, a Southern California school district has changed its decision and agreed to implement a state-approved curriculum.
