Two groups affiliated\u2062 with him \u2014 the People\u2019s Rights\u200b Network and Ammon \u200bBundy\u2062 for Governor Committee \u2014 were ordered to \u200cpay $6.75\u200c million in\u2064 compensatory damages \u200band $6.85 million in punitive damages.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Co-defendant Diego\u2064 Rodriguez was ordered\u200b to pay\u200d $7\u2064 million in compensatory damages and \u200c$6.5 million\u2062 in \u2064punitive damages with the Freedom\u2062 Man \u200dPress and Freedom\u200b Man PAC, both\u2062 affiliated with Rodriguez, \u2062were ordered to pay $6.55 million in \u200dcompensatory damages and\u2063 $6.5 million \u200din punitive damages.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>&#8220;The Ada county courts are embarrassing,&#8221;<\/h3>\n<p>Bundy texted the <a href=\"https:\/\/idahocapitalsun.com\/2023\/07\/24\/bundy-rodriguez-and-groups-ordered-to-pay-52-5m-in-damages-for-idaho-hospital-harassment-jury-rules\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Idaho Capital Sun<\/a> Monday after the decision was reached. &#8220;This recent verdict confirms everything I \u200chave been saying. I am glad I did \u2064not participate \u2064and \u200dlegitimize \u200cthis mockery of justices.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The\u200d case\u200b grew \u200dout of\u2063 a 2022 incident in\u2064 which\u200d Rodriguez\u2019s infant \u200cgrandson \u200dwent into the custody \u200dof \u2062the state Department of Health and Welfare last\u200d year after doctors at St. Luke\u2019s believed the child \u200bwas <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/oregon-liberals-risk-ugly-legacy-another-county-joins-greater-idaho-movement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">malnourished<\/a>, according\u200b to\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ktvb.com\/article\/news\/local\/local-ammon-bundy-ordered-to-pay-st-lukes-over-52-million-in-damages-idaho-hospital-baby-cyrus\/277-8ab59803-5511-48c3-8da8-293d79cdf712\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KTVB-TV<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">That led to massive protests \u2062by\u200b Bundy, Rodriguez and their supporters alleging kidnapping \u200dby the hospital. \u2064The protests, which temporarily shut down the hospitals targeted, then moved from the street to\u200b the \u2064internet.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">During the trial, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/st-louis-woman-beats-sheriffs-deputy-with-her-own-baton-after-she-is-told-to-put-on-a-mask\/\" title=\"St. Louis Woman Beats Sheriff\u2019s Deputy with Her Own Baton After She is Told to Put on a Mask\">security guard<\/a> said\u200d staff at the hospital barricaded the\u2062 doors to\u200d keep out protests. But standing up to the threats, bullying, intimidation, disruption and\u200d self-serving \u200bactions \u200dof the defendants\u2062 was\u200b necessary,\u201d \u200bSt. Luke\u2019s\u2063 CEO \u2064Chris Roth said in a news\u2063 release, according \u2062to the Statesman. \u201cInaction would have signaled that \u2064their \u200cmenacing behavior was acceptable. Clearly, it\u200c is not, and the jury\u2019s decision validates that fact.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Attorney Erik Stidham\u2062 had called for the jury to punish Bundy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cMy\u200d hope is that you will look at this and you will deter (Bundy) in a way that he hasn\u2019t been deterred yet,\u201d he said in \u2062his closing statements.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Stidham noted that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/congress-launches-new-investigation-agents-prosecuted-cliven-bundy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">defendants in\u200d the suit<\/a> did not appear in court,<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>&#8220;Where are\u200d they now that it \u2064is their time to be\u2063 held accountable? They are\u2062 hiding,&#8221;<\/h3>\n<p>he said, \u200baccording to the \u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/idahocapitalsun.com\/2023\/07\/24\/bundy-rodriguez-and-groups-ordered-to-pay-52-5m-in-damages-for-idaho-hospital-harassment-jury-rules\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Idaho Capital Sun<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Sun noted that \u2062in a July \u200c10 letter addressed\u2063 to Ada County District Court \u200cJudge Nancy Baskin and posted on the People\u2019s Rights Network website \u2062said not bothering with a defense \u201cwould be the least \u200btime consuming and least expensive way \u200bto mitigate this lawsuit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Bundy texted the Sun\u200d Monday\u2064 after the decision was reached criticizing the verdict.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>&#8220;Massive \u2064institutions combined with the state, financially benefiting when they take a child is \u200cone \u200cof the worst combination a parent can imagine. Therefore, to counter, the \u2062cost of stealing\u2062 a\u2062 baby must be\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/oregon-governor-encourages-people-to-call-police-on-neighbors-violating-covid-orders\/\" title=\"Oregon Governor Encourages People To Call Police On Neighbors Violating COVID Orders\">extremely high<\/a> \u200dand good\u200d people \u2064must assure strong consequences \u2064when it\u2063 happens,&#8221;<\/h3>\n<p>Bundy wrote.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cPeople in a jury deciding how \u2063much\u2062 St. Luke\u2019s is going to take \u200dfrom\u200b those who\u2062 exposed them is a mockery \u200cto justice,\u201d he\u2063 said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Rodriguez called the \u2063lawsuit \u201cfrivolous\u201d\u2062 when he emailed his comments to the Sun.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThis entire lawsuit is a slap in the face to everyone who cares about freedom and the\u200d Constitution, as our constitutional right\u200c to Freedom of Speech and to just plain TELL THE TRUTH,\u201d he said, alleging again that his\u200b grandson was \u201ckidnapped\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Rodriguez said he would\u2064 continue \u201cto publish the truth\u201d on his websites \u201cno matter if\u2062 the final judgment \u200dis for a billion\u200d or a gazillion dollars.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Rodriguez told\u200c KTVB that\u200b he will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/new-bill-punishes-parents-refuse-affirm-childs-gender-risk-losing-custody-kids\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">appeal<\/a> the verdict.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cAnybody\u200c with a brain \u200dor with 2 cents of basic understanding \u2063of \u2062justice knows\u200b that\u2063 you can\u2019t have an honest or legitimate trial when the defendant has not been allowed to bring evidence \u200bto the case. And when the judge \u2063has \u2064struck all \u2063of my answers from the record. And when the jury pool\u2062 was tainted with employees who\u200c work for \u200bthe Plaintiff.
