(Photo\u200d by Zach \u200dGibson\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>OAN\u2019s <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.oann.com\/tag\/roy-francis\/\" target=\"_blank\">Roy Francis<\/a><br \/>11:25 AM \u2013\u2062 Tuesday, July 25, 2023<\/h2>\n<p>Representative\u200b Stephanie Bice has demanded a \u200bfull accounting from the Internal Revenue\u2062 Service, saying that the nearly $10 million spent\u2064 by\u2064 the agency on weapons \u200dand tactical gear since 2020 is \u201cconcerning.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1\" style=\"min-width: 320px; min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>In \u200ca letter addressed to the IRS Commissioner, Daniel Werfel,\u2064 Bice (R-Okla.)\u200b said that \u201cthe increasing militarization \u200bof the IRS is \u2064of \u200dgrowing\u2062 concern.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cI write to you today to\u2063 express my concerns regarding\u2062 the increased rate \u200dof weapon purchases\u2064 by the Internal \u2063Revenue Service,\u201d the letter said. \u201cWhile I recognize the Criminal Investigation\u200b division has\u2062 a law\u2064 enforcement role, recent reports have indicated that the IRS has made substantial\u200d purchases of weaponry and tactical \u2064gear. \u2062As a civilian agency whose stated mission is to \u2018Provide\u200b America\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republican-sounds-alarm-on-irs-spending-millions-on-weapons-and-tactical-gear\/\" title=\"Republican raises concerns over IRS spending millions on weapons and tactical gear.\">taxpayers top-quality service<\/a> by helping them\u2064 understand\u2063 and meet their tax \u2063responsibilities and enforce the law with integrity and fairness to all,\u2019 the increasing militarization of the IRS \u2062is of growing\u2063 concern.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Since 2006, the IRS has\u2063 spent \u200cover $35 million\u2062 on weapons and tactical gear, with over $10 million being spent\u2063 since \u200b2020 alone.<\/p>\n<p>A report released in April by\u2064 the \u200cwatchdog group,\u2063 OpenTheBooks, which tracks \u200bgovernment spending showed that the \u200dIRS has spent around\u200c $2.3 million on\u200b ammunition, $1.2 \u2063million on ballistic shields, $474,000 \u200don \u200dSmith and Wesson rifles, $463,000 on Beretta \u200c1301 tactical shotguns, and $243,000\u2063 on body armor. The report also showed \u200b$1.3 \u200cmillion which was spent on \u201cvarious other gear\u200b for \u2063criminal investigation agents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The mission of\u200b the IRS according to their website is \u201cto provide America\u2019s taxpayers top quality \u200bservice by \u2063helping them understand and meet their tax responsibilities\u200c and to enforce\u2063 the \u2062law with integrity and fairness to all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, the agency\u200d has\u200c loaded\u200b up on hundreds of thousands\u2019 worth \u200bof tactical lighting, gear bags, holsters, ballistic\u200c helmets, and optic sights for the weapons \u200dthat they have\u2063 purchased since the pandemic. Before 2020, the IRS \u2063had already stockpiled over five million rounds of ammunition for its special\u2062 agents, which number a little over\u2064 2,000.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2062IRS also had owned over 4,500 firearms which include pump-action and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/1-2-million-guns-sold-why-firearms-sales-keep-busting-records\/\" title=\"1.2 Million Guns Sold: Why Firearms Sales Keep Busting Records\">semi-automatic shotguns<\/a>, semi-automatic rifles, and submachine guns.<\/p>\n<p>According to the agency, \u2063new \u200bapplicants must be willing \u201ccarry\u2063 a firearm; must \u2064be\u200d prepared\u2064 to protect him\/herself or others \u2062from \u2062physical attacks at any time and without warning and use firearms in life-threatening situations; must\u2062 be \u2064willing \u2063to \u2063use force up to and including the use of deadly force.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to OpenTheBooks, there are now \u201cmore \u2062federal agents with arrest and \u2062firearm authority (200,000) than U.S. Marines (186,000).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, President Joe Biden gave the agency \u200dover $80\u2064 billion in new \u2062funding as part of his $739\u200c billion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/inflation-reduction-act-of-2022#:~:text=The%20Inflation%20Reduction%20Act%20covers,as%20the%20law%20was%20signed.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Inflation Reduction Act<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Bice quoted the findings by OpenTheBooks, and asked the IRS commissioner to respond within five business\u200b days and provide \u201cinformation on the \u2063account(s) \u2064the \u200bIRS has used \u200bto purchase \u2062such\u200c weapons, gear, and ammunition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She also asked\u2063 the commissioner to\u2063 provide \u201cdata on the quantity and \u200btype(s) of items \u200dlisted below in possession of the IRS:\u2063 Weapons, Weapon\u2062 systems, Ammunition, Explosive devices, Armored vehicles, Drones\/UAVs, Chemical\u200b weapons (tear gas and other calming agents.)\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Republican ended her letter by saying that it is \u201cimportant for Congress to conduct thorough \u2062oversight of IRS, and \u200dthe American people \u2062deserve to have a full accounting of these recent events.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cWe need to know exactly the types and quantities of weapons and ammunition the \u2063IRS has \u2064in their possession. If the IRS fails to provide a response to Congressional oversight, I will pursue further actions \u2064to hold them accountable,\u201d Brice\u200c told Fox News.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Stay informed!
