Chuck\u2064 Grassley, R-Iowa, released \u2064last week. The document,\u200c called an FD-1023, details the reporting of a highly credible FBI informant who says the top executive of Ukrainian oil and\u200c gas firm Burisma\u2062 told him he\u200d paid Joe\u200d and Hunter Biden\u200c $5 million each to protect the company from a\u200c corruption \u200cinvestigation (that\u2019s in addition to the millions\u200c it paid\u2063 Hunter to sit on its \u200bboard).<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1212211917\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-ef770cd88e2fbabfc85b02cc99717b9e fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-ef770cd88e2fbabfc85b02cc99717b9e\"><\/div>\n<p>Instead, the \u201cpaper of record\u201d ran <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/07\/23\/us\/politics\/whistle-blower-biden.html?smid=tw-share\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">an article<\/a> attacking a \u200bgroup called \u2064Empower Oversight for\u200d helping a pair\u200c of IRS whistleblowers at the heart of the Hunter\u200b Biden tax fraud \u200binvestigation who say the FBI and Justice Department hid the informant\u2019s reporting from them, as well as \u200crelevant material on Hunter\u2019s\u2064 laptop. The Times\u2062 wasn\u2019t interested in the substance of what these whistleblowers had \u200bto\u200d say, but rather\u2064 focused on the fact that \u200cEmpower Oversight helped \u2064them\u2062 follow the \u200cproper procedures and whistleblower statutes for bringing their claims to Congress. <\/p>\n<p>Over at The Washington Post, there\u200b was likewise zero coverage of the FBI informant\u2019s reporting, even after portions of it <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/07\/24\/fbi-told-delaware-u-s-attorney-it-had-already-partially-corroborated-biden-bribery-claims-source-says\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">were corroborated this week<\/a> as reported by Margot Cleveland in these pages. Nor\u2063 was \u2062there any mention of Tuesday\u2019s\u200b news that Hunter\u2019s former business\u200b partner and fellow Burisma\u200c board member, \u2062Devon\u2064 Archer, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/07\/23\/hunter-biden-put-then-vp-dad-joe-on-the-phone-with-business-associates-at-least-2-dozen-times-ex-partner-devon-archer-to-testify\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">will testify before Congress<\/a> that Hunter would regularly call his \u2062father and put him on speakerphone with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hunter-biden-put-then-vp-dad-on-phone-in-at-least-2-dozen-calls-to-overseas-biz-associates-ex-partner\/\" title=\"Hunter Biden had his father, the former vice president, participate in approximately 24 phone calls with international business associates, according to a former business partner.\">overseas business associates<\/a> when Joe Biden was\u200c vice president.<\/p>\n<p> None of that seems to interest the editors at the Post. The only mention of\u200d any of this comes from media columnist Philip Bump,\u200c who \u2062devoted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2023\/07\/24\/trump-wanted-ukraine-impugn-biden-dc-republicans-finally-delivered\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">an entire column Monday<\/a> to a tortured explanation of why we should ignore all of\u200c this. Just because a trusted FBI informant is credible,\u200d writes Bump, doesn\u2019t \u200cmean that what the informant was told is true: \u201cI\u200c trust\u200c my wife, but if she tells me that our \u200b6-year-old claims to have seen a \u2064dragon on\u2063 the roof, I don\u2019t \u200csuddenly believe that\u2064 there was a dragon \u2063on\u2063 the roof.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Indeed\u200c not. But what Bump seems to be suggesting\u2062 here\u200b is that if his wife ran up to\u200c him terrified that \u200dthere\u2019s a dragon on the roof because his 6-year-old claims to have seen one, he would\u200d just shrug it off until further\u200b evidence emerged. And\u2062 maybe he actually would. After all, this is the same guy who once seemed terribly confused about <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2014\/05\/19\/the-washington-post-is-super-confused-about-where-babies-come-from\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">where babies come from<\/a>. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-de496c3597f4d7d4704372debc4894d8 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-de496c3597f4d7d4704372debc4894d8\"><\/div>\n<p>But of course Bump, like the rest of the corporate press, is faking it. A normal \u2062person, confronted by his hysterical \u2062wife claiming\u2062 the boy saw a dragon on the roof, would take a second to step outside and look at\u2063 the roof. Bump and his\u200d colleagues refuse to do even this, insisting rather that there\u2019s\u2063 nothing\u2062 to see here but political theater, the GOP desperately grasping at straws\u2064 to \u2062damage Biden.<\/p>\n<p>In a \u200chealthy society with a functioning free press,\u2064 the \u200cBiden corruption scandal \u2014 \u200cand \u2064the obstruction of the DOJ and FBI\u200d on Biden\u2019s behalf\u200c \u2014 would dominate the headlines. Instead of merely reporting \u2063that \u2062the Republican Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy yesterday floated the \u200dprospect of impeachment proceedings against Biden,\u200b the press would be reporting on the\u200b mounting evidence underlying the drive for \u200bimpeachment.<\/p>\n<p>But no. \u200cInstead the corporate media are twisting themselves into pretzels\u200d to explain away every new development in\u2063 this story. Asked\u200d Monday about the \u200bcorruption allegations and \u2062the claims \u2064that\u200b Hunter put his father on speakerphone\u2063 with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/joe-biden-met-with-hunter-bidens-foreign-business-associates-while-he-was-vice-president-reports\/\" title=\"Joe Biden Met With Hunter Biden\u2019s Foreign Business Associates While He Was Vice President: Reports\">foreign business associates<\/a> when \u2064Biden was vice president,\u2062 White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-12335725\/White-House-fire-changing-answers-Joes-involvement-Hunters-shady-deals-Karine-Jean-Pierre-says-Biden-never-business-son-months-insisting-never-discussed-it.html\">said<\/a> Biden \u201cwas never in \u200cbusiness with \u2062his son.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s a far \u2063cry from Biden\u2019s past statements that he has\u2063 \u201cnever spoken\u201d to Hunter about his overseas business dealings. (Never mind the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/07\/25\/joe-biden-allegedly-interacted-with-sons-clients-more-than-200-times\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hundreds\u200d of \u2062meetings<\/a> Biden has reportedly had with Hunter\u2019s business \u200dpartners.) But at this rate the\u200c laughable White House line\u200b will become the media\u2019s fallback position: Biden\u200b wasn\u2019t\u200b in business with his son! He \u200bjust collecting \u201cdividends,\u201d not bribe money! <\/p>\n<p>The upshot of\u2063 all this is\u200b simple: no matter what evidence emerges, the corporate media will not cover it. To \u2062the extent \u200cthey mention any of this, it will be \u2063in the context of bashing Republican lawmakers \u2064for trying to \u200b\u201cdig up dirt\u201d on Biden. If the GOP-controlled House opens an impeachment proceeding, \u2062which is the only \u200dway we\u2019re ever going to get to the \u200dbottom of\u2064 the Biden corruption\u2064 scheme, the \u2062coverage will be about\u200b how Republican \u200clawmakers\u2063 are conducting \u200ba \u201cwitch hunt\u201d to get\u2062 back at Democrats for \u2063impeaching Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Everywhere, we\u2019ll hear the same line that CBS\u2019s \u201cFace the Nation\u201d host Margaret Brennan <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/07\/24\/media-beg-republicans-to-move-on-from-hunter-biden-because-they-know-the-scandal-is-serious\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tossed<\/a> to Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie recently, in\u200d reference to the outrageous plea deal offered to Hunter Biden for a\u2062 couple of tax charges: \u201cI wonder\u200c after this plea happens \u200dif you would advise your party\u2064 to move on?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Of\u2063 course, the\u200c whole point of the plea deal was to give the corporate media this line in hopes that\u200c the American people\u200b would \u200d\u201cmove on\u201d and forget about the \u2064scandal.<\/p>\n<p>But no one, \u2064it seems, is moving\u200d on except Democrats and their courtesans in the \u200cpress. The rest of us are going to take a second to step outside and see for ourselves if \u200cthere\u2019s really a dragon on the roof.
