The San Francisco \u2063Chronicle reports that one project will consist of a 63-unit \u2062housing development\u200c at\u200c 2205 Mission St., while the other will be a 75-unit \u2064housing \u200bdevelopment located at\u2063 750\u200b Golden\u200c Gate Ave.<\/p>\n<h3>Tackling the \u2062Lack of Affordable Housing for Teachers<\/h3>\n<p>The city&#8217;s efforts to address the lack of affordable housing for teachers\u200b have been in progress for years.\u200d In\u2064 2017, \u2062Mayor Ed Lee pledged $44 million to\u200b make this vision a reality. In 2019, voters passed Proposition E, which expedited housing\u2062 production by allowing construction on public lots.<\/p>\n<p>In \u200b2022,\u2063 the city began construction on the\u2062 first affordable housing project for educators, \u2062providing 134 units in the Outer Sunset\u2064 neighborhood. A \u200dtotal of $105 million was invested in this project for district employees.<\/p>\n<h3>Addressing Rising \u2062Rents and Homelessness<\/h3>\n<p>These projects were chosen amidst the backdrop of rising rents and\u2062 a shortage of\u200d affordable housing in \u2063San Francisco. Mayor Breed&#8217;s\u2062 proposed budget includes increased spending to\u2064 combat the homelessness\u200c crisis,\u200b aiming to reduce the number of people living on the streets within \u200dfive\u2062 years.<\/p>\n<p>The plan includes the creation of 545 \u200cnew permanent housing placements, nearly 600 new shelter beds, and 825 prevention and problem-solving placements.
