Despite this constitutional\u200b requirement, over 200 years ago, \u2063President\u2062 John Adams and the Federalists in Congress used the\u2064 threat of war\u2063 with France as a pretext to enact into law the Sedition Act of 1798, which made it a crime\u2062 for Americans to \u201cprint, \u2064utter, or\u2062 publish . . . any false, scandalous,\u200d and malicious\u200c writing\u201d about the government.<\/p>\n<p>The debate surrounding the\u200d Sedition Act was about the nature of freedom of speech. One supporter of the law, Alexander Addison, believed that some \u200bopinions were so dangerous that it was \u200din\u200b the public interest to\u200d suppress them, stating, \u201cTruth has but one side: and listening to error and\u200b falsehood is indeed a strange way to discover truth.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Opposing \u200bViews<\/h3>\n<p>An opponent, Thomas Cooper, presciently argued that the purpose of the Sedition Act was to empower one\u2064 party to \u201csuppress \u2064the opinions of those who differ\u200d from them.\u201d Unsurprisingly, all the defendants prosecuted under the Sedition Act would be Republicans.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Sound familiar?<\/p>\n<p>On Independence Day \u2062this year,\u2064 a federal \u2064judge \u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/07\/07\/in-missouri-v-biden-judge-checks-government-power-because-corporate-media-wont\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">issued\u200c a preliminary \u2064injunction<\/a> restricting the Biden Administration from \u200bcollaborating\u200b with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ga-poll-watcher-it-expert-non-trump-supporter-affidavit-sudden-surge-of-20000-mail-in-votes-for-biden-in-early-hours-on-nov\/\" title=\"GA Poll Watcher, IT Expert, Non-Trump Supporter Affidavit: Sudden Surge of 20,000 Mail-In-Votes For Biden In Early Hours On Nov\">social media companies<\/a> \u2064to censor and suppress constitutionally protected\u2062 speech. In his \u2063opinion, Judge Terry Doughty \u200bstated that the Biden Administration\u2019s efforts to suppress opinions it \u2063opposes \u201carguably involves the most massive attack against free speech in the United States\u2019 history.\u201d It is difficult to disagree with Judge Doughty\u2019s description.<\/p>\n<p>For \u2064years, the Biden Administration demanded social media suppress\u200b and censor conservatives who dared question the origins of Covid, the effectiveness of masks and lockdowns, and election integrity, among other issues. The Biden Administration was so zealous \u2063in its enforcement of\u2063 censorship, even parody content did not escape\u2064 its anti-free speech campaign.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Government Overreach<\/h3>\n<p>And the Biden administration didn\u2019t ask nicely. When then-White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki publicly called on social media companies to censor speech relating to Covid, she mentioned Biden\u2019s support for a \u201crobust anti-trust program,\u201d all but threatening to break up tech giants if they failed to adopt the administration\u2019s censorship policies. Later, the White House announced that it was \u200creviewing policies relating to whether social media should\u2063 be held legally liable for spreading so-called misinformation. In other words, the Biden administration effectively told social media \u2063\u201cDo our bidding, or else.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The White\u200c House was so\u200b aggressive that a Twitter representative\u200d stated the site was \u2062\u201cbombarded\u201d with\u200d censorship \u2062requests from the executive\u2063 branch.\u200c But that bombardment\u200c was not really directed at Twitter \u2063\u2014 it was a monstrous attack on the free speech rights guaranteed to every American by the First\u2062 Amendment.<\/p>\n<p>In addition \u200dto countless numbers of Americans, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/08\/11\/youtube-will-censor-you-if-you-disagree-with-the-government-even-if-youre-in-the-government\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">I was targeted by the censorship regime.<\/a> \u2063 When I posted a video on YouTube to educate the public on the potentially \u2062harmful\u2063 consequences of relying on ineffective cloth masks to prevent transmission of Covid, YouTube took my video down and \u2062suspended me for a week.<\/p>\n<p>Americans are a free people\u200b and we do not \u2063take infringements upon our liberties lightly. The time has come for resistance and\u2064 to reclaim our\u2062 God-given right\u2062 to free expression. Permit me, as\u200c a member of \u2063the resistance, to present a solution that that restores and protects the First Amendment.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>A Solution for Free Speech<\/h3>\n<p>I introduced legislation called the Free Speech Protection Act, which will prohibit federal employees and contractors from using their positions to censor and otherwise attack \u2064speech protected by the First Amendment. My legislation will impose penalties for those that violate this rule, as well as \u200bempower \u200dprivate citizens to sue the \u2062government and executive\u200d branch officials for violating their First Amendment rights. Additionally, the bill will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/congress-must-stop-the-executive-branchs-heinous-attempts-to-censor-americans\/\" title=\"Congress must halt the Executive Branch's censoring of Americans.\">mandate frequent publicly\u200c accessible reports detailing<\/a> the communications between an executive \u200bbranch agency and media organizations, ensure\u200b that federal\u2063 grant money is not used to label media organizations as sources of misinformation \u2062or disinformation, and \u2062terminates authorities that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fact-check-did-cnn-air-a-chyron-stating-elon-musk-could-threaten-free-speech-on-twitter\/\" title=\"FACT CHECK: Did CNN Air A Chyron Stating Elon Musk Could \u2018Threaten Free Speech On Twitter\u2019?\">threaten free speech<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Under my Free\u200b Speech Protection Act,\u2063 the government\u200b will no longer be able to cloak itself in secrecy to undermine the First Amendment rights of \u2062conservatives, libertarians, \u200cliberals, socialists, and \u200dall\u200c others \u200dwho wish to \u200dexercise their right\u2062 to free speech and engage in public discourse.<\/p>\n<p>My legislation will make it difficult to \u2062hide efforts to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/congress-wants-to-make-big-tech-responsible-for-online-speech-heres-why-thats-so-hard\/\" title=\"Congress Wants To Make Big Tech Responsible For Online Speech. Here\u2019s Why That\u2019s So Hard\">censor constitutionally protected speech<\/a>.\u200c Those officials who\u2063 censor Americans are on notice: if you infringe upon First Amendment rights, under my\u200b bill, you\u2062 will face severe penalties, such as \u200bpotential debarment from employment by the United States, a civil penalty of no less than $10,000, and revocation of a security clearance. Any\u200c administration \u2063employee who prizes his livelihood would not dare threaten free speech after my bill becomes law.<\/p>\n<p>Looking back upon his defeat of John \u200cAdams for the presidency, Thomas Jefferson wrote, the \u201crevolution of 1800 . . . \u2064was a real revolution \u2062in the principles of our government\u2062 as that of [17]76.\u201d Jefferson\u2019s victory was a vindication of the First Amendment as he allowed the Sedition Act to expire and \u2063pardoned those convicted \u2064for expressing \u2063their views.<\/p>\n<p>Once again, the American people are called upon to \u200ddefend the founding principles \u2062over \u200bwhich our forebears fought a revolution. To protect free \u200cspeech, Congress must prohibit the \u2064government\u2019s collusion with Big Tech and other media organizations. Congress must pass the\u2064 Free Speech Protection Act.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The First Amendment ensures that Congress cannot pass laws limiting freedom of speech, allowing people to freely express their thoughts and opinions.
