She also claims to have suffered an injury while participating \u200cin outlandish \u201csuicide runs,\u201d \u2062which was allegedly punishment for violating the team\u2019s COVID-19 protocols. <\/p>\n<p>Suicide\u200b runs force athletes to run back-and-fourth to each line on the \u200bcourt as quickly as they can.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote data-service=\"twitter\" data-category=\"marketing\" data-placeholder-image=\"https:\/\/c3.oann.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/complianz-gdpr\/assets\/images\/placeholders\/twitter-minimal.jpg\" class=\"cmplz-placeholder-element twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">A lawsuit is set to be filed on behalf of a former Northwestern female volleyball player against the\u2062 school, Morton\u200c Schapiro, Michael Schill, Derrick Gragg, Jim Phillips\u200d and Shane Davis, saying they &#8220;enabled\u2063 a toxic \u2062culture and failed to adequately \u2064enforce \u2063anti-hazing protocols.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/9frEPVENmA\">pic.twitter.com\/9frEPVENmA<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 \u200bMatt Fortuna (@Matt_Fortuna) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Matt_Fortuna\/status\/1683519851770281984?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July\u2062 24, \u20622023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script type=\"text\/plain\" data-service=\"twitter\" data-category=\"marketing\" async data-cmplz-src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script> <\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The lawsuit claims Jane \u2064Doe contracted COVID-19 in February of that year, \u2062and \u200bin spite of this, the Northwestern volleyball coach Shane Davis and his assistant coach told her that she would \u200bhave to go \u2063through additional \u201cpunishment\u201d for breaking the COVID-19 rules. <\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/former-northwestern-volleyball-player-sues-university-amid-hazing-incident\/\" title=\"Ex-Northwestern Volleyball Player Sues University Over Hazing\">volleyball team captains reportedly decided<\/a> on the penalty a day later on March\u2063 2<sup>nd<\/sup>, 2021, when \u2063they forced her \u2062to run extra\u2064 \u201csuicides\u201d \u200bin the\u2063 gym while she dove to the floor every time she reached a line\u2062 on the court. <\/p>\n<p>The volleyball coaching \u200cstaff, team members, \u2064and\u2062 trainers all observed her punishment.<\/p>\n<p>Jane Doe also claims that Davis ordered her to write a letter of apology\u2064 to the trainers and that \u2063she \u200dwas ostracized from the squad. The player met with the school\u2019s athletic director, Derrick Gragg, to discuss the volleyball\u2062 program\u2019s culture, however, the lawsuit claims that he \u201cdid nothing in\u200b response\u201d \u2062regarding\u2062 her concerns.<\/p>\n<p>The unnamed student submitted\u2063 a\u200c hazing accusation in March 2021, according to a spokesperson for Northwestern, Jon Yates. <\/p>\n<p>Two volleyball\u200d matches were postponed and a requirement for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/university-football-coach-suspended-team-already-under-investigation\/\" title=\"University football coach suspended, team already being investigated.\">anti-hazing training<\/a>\u2062 was put in place, stated Yates, who had suspended the coaching staff after an \u2062investigation revealed hazing had occurred.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThis shows that it\u200c isn\u2019t just \u2063men,\u201d said Parker\u2063 Stinar, one of Jane Doe\u2019s attorneys. \u201cIt isn\u2019t just football players.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Former Northwestern quarterback Lloyd Yates also recently\u2062 filed a separate lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>Yates claimed in\u200d a 52-page lawsuit that was\u200b filed in Cook County\u200d Circuit Court from 2015 to 2018 that when he was a member of the \u200cteam, he had experienced unwelcome sexual, physical, and emotional harassment.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit maintains that during that time, \u200bYates and his teammates were exposed to a hazing routine centered on \u201crunning,\u201d \u2063which was done to punish the team\u2019s younger players for any errors made on the field.<\/p>\n<p>If a player was instructed to run then his teammates would physically restrain \u2064him and rub \u201ctheir genital areas against the teammates\u2019 genitals, face, \u200cand buttocks while rocking back\u200c and\u200d forth without the teammate\u2019s consent,\u201d according to the lawsuit. \u200c <\/p>\n<p>Civil rights lawyer Ben Crump stated at a news conference \u2062on \u200dMonday that Yates\u2019 case is the first with a named plaintiff that\u200c includes statements from other named\u2063 players as witnesses.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a \u2062real big deal when\u200d these \u200cyoung people have the courage to take a stand and refuse to \u200cbe victims anymore,\u200b refuse to have their voices silenced,\u201d Crump said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Michael \u2063Schill,\u200d the school\u2019s\u200c president,\u2062 responded to the charges of hazing made by roughly 11 current and former players by firing the coach responsible,\u200d Pat Fitzgerald. <\/p>\n<p>These charges included \u201cforced participation, nudity,\u200c and sexualized acts of a degrading nature.\u201d \u2063 <\/p>\n<p>In a previous \u200dcase, Fitzgerald was also\u2062 charged\u200c with encouraging\u2064 a racist environment by requiring people of color (POC) on \u200dthe team to cut \u200btheir hair and adopt \u201cdifferent behaviors\u201d\u200b in order to fit in with what he referred to as\u200d the \u201cWildcat Way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite the lack\u200b of\u200b credible evidence \u200bproving \u200dthat Fitzgerald \u2064was aware\u2064 of the\u2063 hazing, Schill said that the head coach is ultimately in charge of the team\u2019s culture. Fitzgerald has since claimed that he\u2063 was unaware of any hazing in the\u2064 program.<\/p>\n<p>Schill also stated that the university is dedicated\u200b to ensuring \u201cstudents\u2019 safety\u200c and well-being,\u201d\u200d and that\u2062 this \u201cincludes thoroughly investigating any\u200b instance \u2063or allegation of hazing or mistreatment.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Schill\u2019s email to the Northwestern community\u2064 on Monday reaffirmed this commitment.<\/p>\n<p>Stay informed!
