Gina Raimondo. This case challenges the 1984 Chevron \u200cdeference, a landmark\u200c ruling that instructs courts to\u200b defer to an agency&#8217;s interpretation of statutes when the language in\u200b them is unclear or\u2063 ambiguous.<\/p>\n<h3>Commitment to America: Holding Washington Accountable<\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;As part\u2064 of our Commitment to America, House Republicans pledged to\u2064 hold\u2063 Washington accountable. The Chevron framework makes it easier for unelected bureaucrats to \u2062weaponize federal regulations against the American people. The Court should\u200d rein in the power of unelected\u200c bureaucrats and restore the separation of powers,&#8221;\u200d stated House \u2063Speaker\u2063 McCarthy.<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy has thrown his support behind the House&#8217;s Bipartisan Legal Advisory Group brief filed in the Raimondo case. This case revolves around four New Jersey fishing companies\u2063 questioning \u2063whether the National Marine Fisheries Service can compel fishing vessels to\u200d cover the salaries \u200bof\u200b federal \u2063observers, which amounts to \u200bapproximately 20% of company revenues.<\/p>\n<p>Other Republican lawmakers, including Senator Ted Cruz (TX) and \u200bRepresentative Mike\u200b Johnson (LA), have joined a separate brief in support of \u200bthe fishermen. A total of 34 \u2063GOP lawmakers have also lent their support.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2063National Federation of Independent Businesses has\u200d filed a brief arguing that &#8220;regulatory burdens harm the business community, especially small businesses.&#8221; While overturning Chevron may not completely eliminate regulatory burdens, \u200cit would &#8220;force Congress to consider the regulatory impact\u2064 of its laws more carefully before enacting them.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The case, set to be argued by \u2062veteran attorney Paul Clement, poses the\u200c question of whether the Court should overrule\u2063 Chevron or, at the very least, clarify that statutory silence on powers \u200dexplicitly granted elsewhere\u200d in the statute does not constitute an ambiguity warranting deference to the agency.<\/p>\n<p>Conservatives have long sought to limit the broad authority \u2064of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/lawmakers-say-overhaul-needed-to-protect-fed-agencies-from-foreign-hacks\/\" title=\"Lawmakers Say Overhaul Needed to Protect Fed Agencies from Foreign Hacks\">executive branch agencies<\/a>, particularly in matters concerning environmental \u200dregulations and fossil fuels, which directly impact industries nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>Support for \u2064overturning Chevron has also been voiced by pro-Second \u200dAmendment groups like the Gun Owners of America.
