The <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/benshapiro\/status\/1682468998607171584\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tweet<\/a> in which we announced that I had actually seen\u200d the \u201cBarbie\u201d movie has roughly 60 million views at \u2064this point.<\/p>\n<p>The \u200coutrage in the\u2064 media \u200dat <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ynU-wVdesr0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">my review<\/a> is astonishing\u200b because \u200bI did a 43-minute review of the film\u2062 in \u2063which I went through it point\u2064 by point. There were \u2063articles\u200c about my \u200creview of \u200cthis movie\u200d in \u200bsources as diverse as Newsweek, NBC\u2062 News, \u200band The Daily Beast. Everyone was covering the fact that I did not like this movie.<\/p>\n<p>What I \u2062did was apparently terrible. Why? Why the outrage over me not liking the film?<\/p>\n<p>I have \u200da question for you leftists. Why are you so \u2064upset? I don\u2019t like the movie? You liked the movie? Okay, we can have those differences, \u2063so why are you so upset?<\/p>\n<p>I\u200b understand\u2064 why <i>I\u2019m<\/i> upset: What\u2064 I\u2019m upset about is the\u2062 lie. You created a\u200b movie that is specifically designated for\u200c little girls and you slide\u2063 in a bunch\u200d of Left-wing \u200cimagery and propaganda about how terrible\u2062 little girls have \u200dit in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Why are <i>you<\/i> so upset? \u2064Your movie made\u200c a \u2064lot of money over \u200dthe weekend. This movie made $160 million over the weekend. It blew the doors off the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-left-freaks-out-because-i-hated-the-barbie-movie-heres-the-real-reason-why\/\" title=\"Why the Left is upset about my dislike for the 'Barbie' movie. Here's the truth.\">box office\u200d opening weekend<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>What are you so upset about? One person whom <i>you already didn\u2019t agree \u2062with politically <\/i>didn\u2019t like the film and yet \u200byou\u2064 are upset.<\/p>\n<p>Does it ever occur to you\u2062 that you act like you\u2019re more religious than I am? I\u2019m the one here \u2064in the yarmulke attesting to my belief in God, but <i>you<\/i> guys are wearing\u2064 your Barbie shirts in\u2062 attestation to \u200cyour idolatry of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/limited-government-isnt-everything\/\" title=\"Limited Government Isn\u2019t Everything.\">sexual revolution<\/a> moment that has played out and is riffed with deep \u2063unhappiness that you refuse to acknowledge.<\/p>\n<p>Barbie is a movie that was marketed to children. \u2062It is a movie that, though it is PG-13,\u200b was clearly marketed\u2064 at moms and \u2064their 8-year-old girls.<\/p>\n<p>But it was a bait-and-switch because \u200cthe\u2064 entire\u2064 movie is a feminist diatribe about\u200b the evils of the modern\u2063 patriarchy.\u2063 They\u2064 mainstream that within a \u2062bunch of Left-wing social\u200b gobbledygook in a movie that is supposed to be sort of \u200ba fun romp with a Barbie doll.<\/p>\n<p>And when\u200b you notice their agenda, they get very upset.<\/p>\n<p>What they <i>really <\/i>want \u2063is approval. Don\u2019t\u200c you <i>dare<\/i> comment in the wrong\u200b way about Greta Gerwig, the\u200d writer-director, whom they\u2019re giving the Jordan Peele treatment or \u200cthe Taylor Swift treatment or the Beyonce \u2063treatment. There are \u200dcertain cultural figures, cultural\u200c idols, where if you criticize them, you have violated the \u2064sacred honor of the Vestal Virgins.<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/episode\/ep-1772-barbie-is-garbage-but-you-re-not-allowed-to-say-so-member-exclusive\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>WATCH: Barbie Is Garbage, But You\u2019re Not Allowed To Say So<\/strong><\/a><\/h3>\n<p>To understand, you have\u2062 to \u2062understand that Greta \u200cGerwig is now \u2064representative of an actual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/shapiro-debunking-transgenderism\/\" title=\"SHAPIRO: Debunking Transgenderism\">religious worldview<\/a>. When I made the kind of quirky\u200b comparison between the reaction to me burning the Barbie dolls\u2063 in this \u200breview and flaming\u2064 the movie and the reaction to\u2063 fundamentalist\u200d Muslims over the burning of the Quran, it wasn\u2019t a frivolous comparison.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s\u2063 because they have\u2062 an actual religious worldview that cannot be attacked. And \u2062if you attack that religious worldview, if \u2063you say that religious worldview is \u200dbad and wrong, \u2064then this\u2062 means that you are a heretic and you <i>must\u2063 be punished<\/i>. There\u2019s a really serious undertone to \u2062a lot of the stuff.<\/p>\n<p>I actually\u2064 got some \u200ddeath threats \u2064over the \u201cBarbie\u201d review.<\/p>\n<p>Why? Because there\u2019s an ideology. It is \u200bthe ideology of the sexual revolution that has been promulgated by\u200c the social\u200c Left \u200bin \u200bthis \u2063country. And it lies at the\u2062 center of \u200beverything they think, everything they feel.<\/p>\n<p>If you question it, \u2063then \u200cyou must atone. You must be brought to heel, Spanish-Inquisition\u200c style.\u2062 That ideology places at the center \u2063of human life <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">the sense of self-identity that cannot be abridged by anyone\u2064 else.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>If you say, for example, that women\u2063 should\u200b have \u200cchildren, that \u2064they should get \u200dmarried, \u2062that men should get married,\u200c that men should have children, if you say that the \u200dheight \u2064of human aspiration is\u2063 <i>not<\/i> sexual pleasure or an \u201cindividualistic pursuit \u200dof subjective success,\u201d that\u200d there are \u200dthings you should do in this life that are higher and\u2062 better, if you do that, that \u2064is a violation of the agreement\u200b that they think we are supposed to have, which is to place\u200b at the\u2064 center\u2063 of our being a narcissistic view of self.<\/p>\n<p>How do \u200bI know this? Because Greta Gerwig <i>says so<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>This is \u200cthe reason Greta Gerwig\u200d is now\u2063 a \u2062religious figure for \u200cthe Left. \u2063You must not violate the idolatry of Greta \u200cGerwig by saying that Greta Gerwig is an overrated\u2062 director and an overrated writer and \u200bthat her ideology is false \u2064and does\u200d not ring true.<\/p>\n<p>Greta Gerwig has\u2062 a religious worldview. She \u2062did an interview\u200d with Vogue in which she talked about writing the movie, and she\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>said \u2062that\u200d before\u200d she made the\u200b movie, she wrote an abstract \u200bpoem about Barbie. She wouldn\u2019t read the poem to Vogue, \u200dbut astonishingly, she compared it to the <i>Apostles\u200c Creed<\/i>, the affirmation\u2062 of\u200b certain core Christian\u2062 beliefs.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s\u200b her language, not mine.<\/p>\n<p>She apparently saw the Barbie movie as \u200da way of rebutting certain presumptions about the Bible\u200c itself. Gerwig said, \u201cKen was invented after\u200c Barbie \u2064to\u2064 burnish Barbie\u2019s position in\u2063 our eyes and in the world.\u200b That kind \u2064of creation myth is the opposite of the creation myth in Genesis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So there is something that is deeper than \u200ba mere sort of cultural stupidity happening here: Greta Gerwig is channeling\u200c a reverse Biblical morality into a \u2064movie that\u2062 is directed at children.<\/p>\n<p>That is what is happening here, and you\u2019re not supposed to \u2064notice that? But \u2064if you\u2062 <i>do <\/i>notice it makes you bad.<\/p>\n<p>Modern society has gotten rid of the\u2062 saints. Modern society has \u2062gotten\u2062 rid of Judeo-Christian traditional values\u200d or demeaned them \u200cas \u200ccompletely superfluous. In fact, the entire Barbie movie is about how relationships \u200cbetween men and women are actually\u200b stupid and\u200c impossible and fraught with tension. Separate but equal is\u2063 the only way to do a proper Barbie land in the \u200cbizarre Barbie world that has been created by Greta\u2063 Gerwig and Noah \u200cBaumbach, her\u200c longtime romantic partner, people who both drink deeply\u2063 from the well of secular humanist leftism.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Their view is an idolatrous worldview, \u2063and it demands \u2062that you be part of the\u2062 idolatry.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But if you say no, the morality you are \u2064promulgating is stupid \u200band counter-productive\u2063 and it is bad when you promulgate it \u2063to kids, leftists \u200btreat you as if you violated a religious group.<\/p>\n<p>Because \u200byou have.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s no subtlety to this movie. It\u2019s like being repeatedly hit in the \u200bhead with a sledgehammer with the\u2063 nostrums of third-wave feminism.<\/p>\n<p>There \u2064is one speech that \u2064America Ferrera makes in the Barbie\u200c movie\u2064 that basically is the Apostles Creed of feminism. She says: \u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><i>It is literally impossible \u2064to be a woman. You\u200d are so \u200dbeautiful, and so smart,\u2064 and it kills\u200c me\u200c that you don\u2019t\u2064 think you\u2019re good enough. Like,\u200b we have to \u200dalways be extraordinary, but somehow we\u2019re always \u200bdoing it \u2062wrong.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>You have to be thin, but\u200b not too thin. And you can never say you want to \u2062be thin. You have to say \u2063you want to be healthy, but also you have to\u200b be thin. You have \u2062to have money, \u2062but you can\u2019t ask for money \u2063because\u200b that\u2019s crass. You have\u2063 to \u200bbe\u200d a boss, but you can\u2019t be mean. You have to lead, but \u200cyou can\u2019t squash other people\u2019s ideas. You\u2019re supposed to love\u2062 being a mother, but \u200ddon\u2019t talk about your\u2063 kids all the damn time. You have to be\u2062 a career woman, but also always be looking out for other people.\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>You have to answer for men\u2019s bad behavior, which is \u2064insane, but\u2064 if you point that out, you\u2019re accused \u200bof complaining. You\u2019re \u200csupposed\u200b to stay pretty for men, but not so\u2063 pretty\u200d that you tempt them too much or that you threaten other women because you\u2019re supposed to \u200bbe a\u2064 part of \u2062the sisterhood. But always stand out and always be grateful. But never \u2063forget\u200c that the system is rigged. So find\u200b a way to acknowledge \u2063that but also always be grateful. You\u200c have to never get\u200c old, never be rude, never show off, never be selfish, \u200cnever fall down, never fail, never show fear, \u2062never get \u2064out of line. It\u2019s too hard! It\u2019s too \u200dcontradictory and nobody gives \u200cyou a medal or\u200b says thank you! And it turns out in fact that not only \u200care you doing everything wrong, but also everything is your fault.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>I\u2019m just so tired of watching myself and every single other woman tie \u200bherself into knots so\u2064 that\u2062 people will like us. \u200dAnd if all of that \u2064is \u200dalso true \u2062for a doll\u2062 just representing women, then I don\u2019t even know.<\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This is the Apostles \u2063Creed, apparently.<\/p>\n<p>Yeah? Try being your grandmother. Seriously. Try being your grandmother operating without \u200ba washing machine with\u2063 six kids in a home. It\u2019s her job\u2064 to make sure \u200dthat \u200beverything runs\u2062 on time. But you\u2019re the real victim?<\/p>\n<p>Their religion is secular leftism. And the Apostles Creed of it is the Apostles Creed \u2064of the sexual revolution. If you cross them, they \u2063become just as angry as\u2063 any other inquisition; they externalize that into, \u201cI can\u2019t believe somebody said \u200csomething\u200b bad: must protect \u2064the precious.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a form of\u2062 idolatry, and it\u2019s amusing to watch the Left try\u2062 to spin it away. You hear people\u2063 on the Left say \u2064things like: \u201cMy kid isn\u2019t going to pick up on\u200d all this messaging. What \u200bdo \u2064I\u2062 care? It\u2019s\u2063 subtle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There are\u2062 certain movies \u2063where\u2064 things will just fly right over\u2064 kids\u2019 heads; I know, I have four of\u200b them.<\/p>\n<p>But there\u2019s no subtlety\u2062 to this film at all.
