This \u200cdecision was made due to safety concerns for both the employees and\u200b the taxpayers\u2064 involved.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThese visits created extra anxiety for\u200c taxpayers already wary of \u2063potential scam artists,\u201d IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel said in \u200da <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/newsroom\/irs-ends-unannounced-revenue-officer-visits-to-taxpayers-major-change-to-end-confusion-enhance-safety-as-part-of-larger-agency-transformation-efforts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news release<\/a>. \u201cAt the same\u2063 time, \u200cthe uncertainty around what IRS employees faced when\u2062 visiting \u200bthese homes\u200b created \u2062stress for \u200dthem as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Unscheduled\u2064 visits to households and businesses have been a \u2062practice of the IRS since\u2063 the 1950s, aimed \u200dat collecting unpaid taxes and resolving unfiled tax returns. However, due to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/intel-community-warns-biden-of-terror-threat-at-mexican-border\/\" title=\"Intel Community Warns Biden of Terror Threat at Mexican Border\">increased security concerns<\/a> and the rise of fraudsters posing as IRS agents, the agency has decided \u2064to put an end\u200d to these \u200din-person visits.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThis is the right thing to do and \u2063the right time to end\u2062 it,\u201d \u200dWerfel added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According \u2064to IRS officials, federal tax agents were assaulted hundreds of times a \u200byear over 30 years ago, making\u2064 them the most-attacked\u2062 federal law \u2064enforcement officers. Recognizing \u2062the\u200d challenges faced by these agents, the IRS believes that\u2062 eliminating this duty \u2063could attract more qualified individuals to join the agency.<\/p>\n<p>The IRS has replaced most \u200d<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/shocking-video-shows-two-children-collecting-tips-on-stage-at-drag-nightclub\/\" title=\"Shocking Video Shows Two Children Collecting Tips On Stage At Drag Nightclub\">unannounced visits<\/a> with appointment \u2062letters to schedule follow-up \u200dface-to-face meetings.\u2062 While taxpayers may no\u200d longer see \u2064the taxman unexpectedly \u200dat their\u200b doorstep, limited unscheduled visits may still occur in\u200b rare \u200binstances involving summonses, subpoenas, or \u2063sensitive \u2063enforcement activities.<\/p>\n<p>This announcement coincides with the creation of \u2063the IRS Strategic Operating Plan, which aims to transform the federal\u2063 service\u2062 and double the size\u200b of \u2063its workforce following\u2063 the\u200d passage of\u2063 the Inflation Reduction Act last year.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this \u2063year, the\u2062 IRS\u2062 also made headlines \u200dby announcing its intention to hire agents qualified to \u2062carry firearms for the agency&#8217;s\u200d Criminal Unit.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Candidates for\u2062 the \u200cspecial \u2062agent position, the only job \u2063at \u200cthe IRS where employees are permitted to \u2064carry guns,\u2064 will be expected to combine their \u201caccounting skills with law enforcement \u2063skills to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ny-attorney-general-taps-abolish-ice-activist-as-special-adviser\/\" title=\"NY Attorney General Taps \u2018Abolish ICE\u2019 Activist as Special Adviser\">investigate financial crimes<\/a>,\u201d according to a posting \u200bon the IRS website.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Adam Andrzejewski, Founder and CEO of Open \u2064the Books, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/irs-ends-decades-long-practice-of-visiting-taxpayers-homes-unannounced\/\" title=\"IRS stops surprise visits to taxpayers' homes after decades.\">database\u2064 capturing disclosed government spending<\/a>, discovered that the IRS spent $35.2 million\u2064 on guns, ammunition, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/irs-stockpiles-more-than-5-million-rounds-of-ammunition\/\" title=\"IRS Stockpiles More Than 5 Million Rounds of Ammunition\">military-style equipment<\/a> \u2064in the last 20 years. Andrzejewski expressed concern over the increasing\u200c militarization of the IRS.<\/p>\n<p>The\u2062 IRS&#8217;s\u2063 decision also comes after \u200dindependent journalist Matt Taibbi \u2064revealed that an IRS official visited his home on the same day he \u2064testified\u200c before Congress about the \u200dweaponization of the federal government.
