Marc\u2062 Molinaro (R., N.Y.) in the state&#8217;s 19th Congressional District. It&#8217;s a rematch of the 2022 race that Molinaro narrowly won by less than 2 percentage points.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What did the\u200b op-ed say?<\/strong> Published in the <em>Press &#038; Sun-Bulletin<\/em> of Binghamton, N.Y., Riley&#8217;s 731-word abomination <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/660887754\/GUEST-VIEWPOINT-Baseball-Fans-Should-Adopt-New-Pastime\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">urged<\/a> Americans in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/this-democrat-wrote-the-most-offensively-anti-american-op-ed-youll-ever-read\/\" title=\"This Democrat's Op-Ed Is Highly Offensive to Americans.\">borderline\u2064 treasonous fashion<\/a>\u200b to &#8220;abandon baseball and indulge in a new pastime.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>That&#8217;s not very American.<\/strong> No, it&#8217;s not. And you know what else?<\/p>\n<p><strong>What?<\/strong> \u200dNew York&#8217;s 19th Congressional District borders Cooperstown, site of the National Baseball Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why would he write \u200csomething like that?<\/strong> Probably because \u200dhe hates America. Why else?<\/p>\n<p><strong>What was his argument, exactly?<\/strong> Riley explained (correctly) that unionization \u2064had corrupted Major League Baseball, which at\u200c the time of publication \u2062was in the midst of an ugly negotiation over a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/capitol-police-officers-issue-vote-of-no-confidence-for-top-leadership\/\" title=\"Capitol Police Officers Issue Vote Of No Confidence For Top Leadership\">collective bargaining agreement<\/a>. Greedy unions and rampant steroid use were among the reasons &#8220;baseball\u2062 is no longer the\u200c embodiment of American virtue,&#8221; \u2062Riley wrote.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What &#8220;new pastime&#8221; did he suggest Americans adopt?<\/strong> I really don&#8217;t want to\u200b say. It&#8217;s too upsetting. Do you really want \u200cto\u200c know?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Yes, I do. How bad could it be?<\/strong> Believe me, it&#8217;s bad.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Just tell me.<\/strong> Fine.\u200d Riley suggested that &#8220;professional soccer may be the \u200cbest new candidate to provide therapeutic diversion.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>What? \u2062Are you \u2062f\u2014ing kidding me?<\/strong><\/em>  Okay, calm down.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>F\u2014 me! Soccer as America&#8217;s \u200bpastime?<\/strong><\/em>  \u2062 I know, it&#8217;s egregious. I tried to warn you. He wrote that\u2062 soccer \u200bshould replace baseball\u200c as &#8220;the\u2063 premier national sport&#8221; in America.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jesus. Was he joking?<\/strong> I&#8217;m afraid \u2064not.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What \u200delse did he \u200bsay?<\/strong> Riley praised soccer as &#8220;a sport with great potential&#8221; in the United States \u200band touted its \u200dpopularity in lesser nations around the world. He argued\u200b it was &#8220;laughable&#8221; to suggest soccer is &#8220;too \u2064slow&#8221; because\u200d baseball isn&#8217;t exactly fast-paced either. He\u2063 neglected to mention that no <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/equity-baseball-mlb-tries-to-fix-performance-by-handcuffing-exceptionalism-with-new-rules\/\" title=\"\u2018Equity\u2019 Baseball: MLB Tries To Fix Performance By Handcuffing Exceptionalism With New Rules\">professional baseball game<\/a> has ever ended in a\u2063 0-0 tie.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This\u200d is really disgusting stuff.<\/strong> I \u200dknow.\u200b Americans should like it because\u200d the\u2064 rest of the world \u200cdoes. Who cares? If soccer was a legitimate \u200csport, America would\u2063 have the best team.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Exactly. And women&#8217;s soccer \u200cdoesn&#8217;t count.<\/strong> Obviously.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u200d else?<\/strong> He \u200dsaid another reason to like soccer is that &#8220;the basic\u200b rules &#8230; are easy to\u200b understand.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Not really.<\/strong> \u200bI \u2062know, right? What is offside? Just kick the damn ball in the goal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Seriously, and I&#8217;ve never understood the rule that lets one team get a free kick every \u200btime their player pretends to be horribly injured and cries like a little bitch.<\/strong> Agreed, it&#8217;s total nonsense.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And fundamentally \u200banti-American.<\/strong> \u200b No\u200c argument there.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Is that all?<\/strong> Pretty \u200cmuch. Riley goes on to suggest that, \u2062compared with\u200d baseball, soccer is a purer sport uncorrupted by greed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Um, what?<\/strong> I know. International soccer is one \u200cof the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/04\/06\/sports\/soccer\/qatar-and-russia-bribery-world-cup-fifa.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">most corrupt<\/a> enterprises ever devised by the human race. \u200bThe last two World Cups were hosted by Russia \u2062and Qatar, for\u200d crying out loud.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Liking soccer is almost as bad as supporting terrorism.<\/strong> For sure.
