Patients were\u200b trapped \u2063in\u2064 the facility, unaware of their\u2062 rights, and cut off from\u200b the outside world, with little hope of rescue or assistance, \u2063as stated in an article by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insider.com\/arkansas-psychiatrist-imprisoned-patients-in-a-psych-facility-lawsuits-2023-3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Insider<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Insider further reported that the staff at the facility would go to extreme lengths to keep patients confined, resorting to coercion, \u2062threats, and sedation. A report prepared\u2062 for the office revealed that Dr. Hyatt claimed to\u200b conduct daily in-person evaluations, but a whistleblower stated that he only spent a few minutes each day and had \u2062no contact with patients, according to the affidavit.<\/p>\n<p>Attorney Aaron Cash, who represents patient\u200b William\u200d VanWhy, described the scheme as an\u200d attempt to keep patients in the facility for as long as possible, maximizing insurance \u2063billing before releasing them and filling the bed with \u2062someone else, as reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/top-arkansas-psychiatrist-accused-falsely-imprisoning-patients-medicai-rcna93430\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NBC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Investigation Findings: Lack of Patient\u200d Interactions<\/h3>\n<p>During the \u2063course \u200dof a 45-day video investigation, it was discovered that\u2063 Dr. Hyatt had only interacted with \u2063patients for a total of less than 10 minutes, despite billing for numerous patient interactions. The affidavit stated that the vast majority \u2064of patients under his care never had a single conversation with him.<\/p>\n<p>According to \u200cthe affidavit, claims submitted by Dr. Hyatt and his non-physician providers indicated that no patient in the behavioral unit at Northwest Medical Center showed any signs of improvement until the day of their release.<\/p>\n<h3>Contemptuous Communication and Aftermath<\/h3>\n<p>Attorney \u2063Aaron Cash\u2062 shared an email\u200c exchange with \u2062Dr. Hyatt regarding patient Karla Adrian-Caceres, whom he fought to\u2062 release from the facility in 2022.
