To get a World ID, a customer signs \u2064up to do an in-person iris \u2064scan\u00a0using Worldcoin\u2019s \u2018orb\u2019, a silver\u200b ball approximately the size of a \u200dbowling ball. Once the \u200borb\u2019s iris scan verifies the person is a real human, it creates a World ID.<\/p>\n<p>The company behind\u2063 Worldcoin is San Francisco and Berlin-based Tools for Humanity.<\/p>\n<p>The \u200dproject has \u20642 million users \u200cfrom its beta\u2064 period, and with Monday\u2019s launch, Worldcoin is scaling up \u201corbing\u201d operations to 35 cities in 20 countries. As an enticement, those who sign up\u200b in certain \u200bcountries will receive Worldcoin\u2019s cryptocurrency token WLD.<\/p>\n<p>WLD\u2019s price \u2064rose in \u200bearly trading on Monday. On \u2064the\u200c world\u2019s largest exchange, Binance, it hit\u200c a peak of $5.29 and \u200bat 1000 GMT was at $2.49 from a starting price of $0.15, having seen $25.1 million of trading volume, according to Binance\u2019s website.<\/p>\n<p>Blockchains can store the World IDs in a way that preserves privacy and can\u2019t be controlled or shut down by any single entity, co-founder \u200cAlex Blania told Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>The project\u2062 says World IDs will be necessary in the age\u2063 of generative AI chatbots\u2062 like ChatGPT, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/openais-sam-altman-launches-worldcoin-crypto-project\/\" title=\"Sam Altman, OpenAI's founder, introduces Worldcoin crypto venture.\">produce remarkably \u2064humanlike language<\/a>. Because AI \u201cwill do \u200bmore and more of the work that people now do,\u201d Altman believes \u200cUBI can help to combat income inequality.
