That is \u200dto say, leftists have noticed\u2063 that Americans feel increasingly \u2062alienated and lonely, and they are going to do\u2062 something\u2064 about it.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Chris Murphy, \u200cD-Conn., has proudly <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ChrisMurphyCT\/status\/1681350024200962053\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced<\/a> the \u201cNational Strategy for Social Connection Act,\u201d which \u201ccreates a federal office to\u2063 combat the growing epidemic of American loneliness, develops anti-loneliness strategies, and fosters best practices to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/federal-loneliness-advisory-sketches-blueprint-for-regulating-everyones-private-life\/\" title=\"Federal advisory proposes regulating private life to combat loneliness.\">promote social connection<\/a>.\u201d No doubt this bureaucratic buddy program will\u2063 reweave America\u2019s \u2062frayed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-justice-department-scraps-investigation-into-yales-discriminatory-admissions-process\/\" title=\"Biden Justice Department Scraps Investigation Into Yale\u2019s Discriminatory Admissions Process\">social fabric<\/a>, which just needs more friendship-facilitating feds.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>The Real Sources of\u200d American Loneliness<\/h3>\n<p>Murphy seems sincere,\u2064 and some of his concerns, such as those \u200cregarding <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/07\/18\/opinion\/big-tech-algorithms-kids-discovery.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">what<\/a> \u200d the algorithm-driven world of social media does\u2062 to children, are valid. But if he \u2063wants to confront the real\u200c sources of American loneliness, he should look in the mirror. Nothing has done more to destroy American families and communities than the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/limited-government-isnt-everything\/\" title=\"Limited Government Isn\u2019t Everything.\">sexual revolution<\/a>, which Murphy and his party enthusiastically champion. Sexual liberation promised a good time, but it has\u200d turned out \u200dto \u2063be very lonely indeed.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>A lonely society is the\u2064 predictable (and predicted) consequence of eroding\u200b the commitments and duties of\u2062 the natural family. Broken relationships between men \u200cand women lead to broken communities and traumatized children. A\u200d culture that worships \u2064sexual freedom, \u2062even at the cost \u200cof killing babies <em>in utero<\/em>, makes isolation and despair inevitable among the living.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, community and family life break down in a culture\u2064 that effaces the differences between men \u200cand women to the point of pretending \u200bthat men can be women and women \u200bcan be men. Under pressure from adult activists and\u2064 panicked by the\u200c superstition\u2064 that children\u2063 are being born into the wrong bodies, Murphy and his \u200cparty have even embraced the\u2063 surgical and chemical sterilization\u200b and mutilation of children.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, there are other\u200d contributions to increasing loneliness \u200dand alienation: economic policies that place too much \u2064value on GDP growth over economic stability, bad <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepublicdiscourse.com\/2023\/07\/89738\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">housing \u2064policies,<\/a> and immigration\u200d policies that\u2064 allow drug cartels to control the \u200bsouthern border. But someone who \u200bis unwilling to face the broken promises and evil consequences of the sexual revolution does not really\u2064 want to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ChrisMurphyCT\/status\/1681347150620377124\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">address<\/a> \u200b\u201cthe\u2062 spiritual crisis facing America \u200btoday.\u201d And so, Murphy quickly <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ChrisMurphyCT\/status\/1677377866210902016\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">backtracked<\/a> when his tweets about expanding the Democratic Party\u2019s coalition were criticized for \u2062opening the possibility of compromise on social issues.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>The Left&#8217;s Reluctance to Confront\u200b the Root \u2063Causes<\/h3>\n<p>Unless Murphy can muster the courage needed for self-examination and crossing his party\u2019s activist base, he will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/a-department-of-friendship-cant-fix-the-sexual-revolutions-lonely-fallout\/\" title=\"Friendship Department can't mend the loneliness caused by the Sexual Revolution.\">remain stuck offering useless solutions<\/a> to the alienation he bemoans. But at least he will have plenty of company.<\/p>\n<p>Many others on the American left are finally noticing our society is decaying, but they are \u200dalmost uniformly unwilling to\u2063 admit that the culture and policies they have championed\u200c have anything to \u200bdo with \u200dit. For example, The Washington Post columnist E. J. \u2064Dionne recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2023\/07\/16\/political-polarization-solution-ej-dionne\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">urged<\/a> Democrats to champion family and community. Of \u200bcourse, Dionne \u200chas spent his career as the sort of Catholic Democrat who eagerly excuses abortion, adultery, and homosexuality, and he still won\u2019t admit that any of that might have contributed \u200dto the collapse of the family and\u2063 community.<\/p>\n<p>Another example is provided by Michelle Cottle of The New York Times, who recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/07\/19\/opinion\/male-loneliness.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a> that men in particular seem to be lonely. She suggests that men receive their \u2063own spaces for \u200csocializing in their own way, which means more physical activity and less chatting\u2062 than women. She\u2019s right, and it \u200cis too bad that generations of feminists have relentlessly \u2064destroyed male spaces and male culture.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>These writers illustrate why \u200bleftism has \u200dbeen so corrosive to \u200dthe social fabric, and why liberals are\u2064 struggling to diagnose the root causes of our social \u200bailments, even\u200d though they can finally see the symptoms.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>The Importance of Rejecting the Sexual Revolution<\/h3>\n<p>Leftism seeks to liberate \u200dus from all unchosen constraints and obligations, which includes our embodiment as men and women. It has \u200deffaced the differences between men and women and embraced the sexual\u200c revolution, which \u200dpresumes that happiness, authenticity, and fulfillment are found through indulging our desires, especially our\u2062 sexual impulses. But \u2063as intense\u200c as these desires\u200b may\u200d be, they are not the key to happiness, and their relentless pursuit damages the relationships in which we can best cultivate our happiness in this life.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The \u2063sexual revolution places\u2063 self-indulgence at the\u2062 center of relationships between men and women, rather than commitment and \u2064self-sacrifice. This emphasis on adult autonomy denigrates\u200b the dependence of children. It sacrifices their interests and even their \u200blives (nowhere are children more dependent than in the womb) on the altar of adult individualism and indulgence.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, marriage has been remade into an institution of adult self-actualization \u2014 what members of \u2064the professional classes settle into after building their careers \u2014 rather than the fundamental basis of\u200d society in which \u2063the two halves of the\u2063 human race are united to continue it.<\/p>\n<p>The keys to human flourishing are \u2064not mysterious. We are relational beings who thrive in communion with\u200b others.\u200d Men and women \u200bare meant\u200d for each other. Children live\u200c best when raised by their natural mother and father in a stable home.<\/p>\n<p>Getting married, having kids, \u200cand going to church offer a far better anti-loneliness program than\u2064 anything Murphy\u2019s proposed Department of Friendship could devise. Stable families with married parents also provide the great anti-poverty program, the great anti-crime program, the great educational program, and more.<\/p>\n<p>Marriage and parenthood are the vocations most of us are called to, but both are declining, \u2062which inevitably leads\u2064 to loneliness. If Murphy were serious about <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ChrisMurphyCT\/status\/1681984163031777283\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">crafting<\/a> \u201cthe agenda we need to \u2064breathe spiritual health back into America,\u201d he would reckon with this truth. But it is \u2063easier for a Democrat to propose yet more government\u200b programs than to acknowledge the \u200cwreckage of the\u200c sexual \u200drevolution.<\/p>\n<p>To cure loneliness, we\u2062 must reject the sexual revolution and all its\u2064 empty promises.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Leftists, like arsonists in an inferno, arrive with innocence and suggestions to extinguish it.
